Alcoa is seeking a highly motivated and energetic team member to join our Global Maritime Team as a Chartering Manager based in Rotterdam, Netherlands managing procurement and logistics work for materials and finished goods, or products for resale.

About the role: The Global Maritime Team is accountable for delivering commercially effective global ocean transportation solutions that support and optimize our global supply chain processes.

You as the Chartering Manager will manage the European portfolio in the movement of raw materials of various commodities ensuring corporate and contract compliance. Reporting to the Director of Global Maritime Operations, you will be in constant communication with Alcoa refineries, smelters, mines, as well as ship owners, brokers and vessel agents in the European region.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Charter ocean bulk freight for the European locations and 3rd party customers
  • Manage contracts of affreightment to ensure conformity to operational and scheduling requirements.
  • Liaise with supply chain and locations regarding shipping schedules and contract allocations.
  • Identify potential synergies across our shipping network.
  • Study market drivers for specific ship classes in the region informing freight strategies.
  • Support operations team with vessel movements and start to finish contract management.
  • Direct team on proper processes to ensure correct vessel operating procedures are being followed.
  • Provide support and establish Alcoa requirements to vessel agents and brokers.
  • Engage in process improvement for the region.
  • Ensure proper forecasting and report for European region in support of the Global Maritime metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Flexible schedule required dealing with varying time zones.
  • Demonstrated advanced-level skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, including extensive spreadsheet, graph and chart generation knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of Maritime Operations.
  • 5 years supply chain / logistics experience.
  • Management experience
  • ASBA Certification is required, supplied by Alcoa, and to be completed within the first year.
