Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE
Supervise the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of compressor stations and transmission pipelines. Ensure all facilities in the assigned area-from Muddy Gap to Elk Basin, Wyoming-are operated and maintained in accordance with Company standards and regulatory requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage all PHMSA and other regulatory agency requirements and be prepared to assist during inspections or audits of assigned facilities.
  • Monitor and implement company procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Responsible for safety programs, environmental compliance, governmental compliance, employee training and development, facility security, technical support, and personnel functions.
  • Understand and effectively utilize Maximo, OpsInfo, and other Company compliance-related data systems.
  • Ensure compliance with the Operator Qualification (OQ) Program.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to compressor and pipeline personnel; oversee planning and activities at multiple locations.
  • Create, manage, plan, and provide accurate monthly forecasts for Capital and O& M budgets within the area of responsibility.
  • Participate in developing O& M procedures, site-specific procedures, project scopes, and work plans.
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of gas-fired industrial turbines, reciprocating power units, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, and other related equipment.
  • Oversee construction and maintenance activities conducted by third parties on company property or in company right-of-way areas to protect company interests.
  • Responsible for cash-flow management, cost monitoring, and cost control.
  • Supervise operations to achieve goals within budgeted funds.
  • Prioritize tasks and develop work schedules to efficiently utilize manpower.
  • Perform project management tasks, including organizing scopes of work, preparing AFEs, scheduling, estimating and monitoring project costs, completing project reports, and coordinating company and contractor resources.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of direct reports.
  • Develop short- and long-range plans, goals, and objectives for compressor stations, pipelines, and storage operations.
  • Provide support to project management and business development as needed.
  • Organize work for timely completion.
  • Complete required documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, regulatory requirements, and tariff requirements.
  • Work effectively with employees, management, vendors, and customers with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Communicate clearly in person and by telephone, demonstrating strong verbal skills and active listening.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of job performance.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the safety of the public.
  • Respond to emergency situations at any hour of the day or night.
  • Carry a cell phone and respond during working and non-working hours as required (including 24-hour emergency response when needed).
  • May be required to work non-traditional hours.
  • Occasional out-of-town and weekend travel required.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in compressor stations, gas storage facilities, and pipeline systems in the natural gas industry.
  • Supervisory experience and asset-management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high- and low-pressure piping systems.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plans.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Proficiency with computers, including MS Office, operating systems, and Company software.
  • Strong math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage crews across multiple locations with multiple tasks.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead toward operational excellence.
  • Strong customer-service focus when interacting with engineering, field operations, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable working with remote supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take directions from supervisors.
  • Ability to adhere to work schedules, focus on details, and follow established work rules.
  • Ability to perform required duties with little or no direct supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions, work outdoors in all environments.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 50 pounds from floor to waist, with or without reasonable accommodation.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must live within 40 minutes of assigned reporting location.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and respond during working and non-working hours as needed.
  • Travel required up to 10% on average; may include occasional out-of-town nights and weekend travel.
  • Successful external candidates must pass a drug screen and complete a background check prior to employment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous for this position:
  • Previous experience supervising crews with pipeline and compressor station responsibilities and managing multiple tasks on a daily basis.
  • Previous experience with budgeting, completing forecasts, and conducting variance reporting.
  • Detailed knowledge of compressor station, gathering, and transmission pipeline system operations.
  • Experience analyzing, adjusting, and performing minor repairs on compressor engines, pumps, and other associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating costs and best practices associated with equipment within the area of responsibility.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P& IDs, and other technical diagrams.
  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high- and low-pressure systems.
  • Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and practices, as well as regulatory and tariff requirements.
  • Prior experience operating electrical motors and centrifugal compressors.
