We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join the team on the General Surgery Unit:
  • Provide high-acuity, post-operative care in our 28-bed abdominal surgery specialty unit where patients have had complex surgery involving esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas (Whipple procedure), gallbladder, and bile ducts.
  • This unit is also home to several other surgical services including minimally invasive and emergency surgery and surgical oncology.
  • Nurses on this unit are highly skilled in complex post-operative patient care and frequently place IVs, NG tubes, catheters, administer enteral nutrition, manage surgical drains and wound vacs, care for new stomas, utilize epidural and PCA pain pumps, perform complex wound care, monitor telemetry and more!
  • Teamwork between RNs, nursing assistants, providers, and nursing leadership is supportive and nurturing here.
  • Nurses work with an interdisciplinary team committed to maintaining high standards of patient care, excellent communication, while adhering to the principles of Primary Nursing and the Interdisciplinary Model of Care.
  • Emphasis is placed on professional development through continuing education for nursing staff, support for professional certifications, development of unit resource nurses, and mentorship of staff and students.

Education:

Preferred - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Work Experience:

Minimum - Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health's Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.

Preferred - Relevant RN experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum - Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact. Current CPR/BLS Certification
