Job Description

Midwest Engineered Systems, Inc. is hiring a Welding Engineer I in Waukesha, WI. This is a full-time position.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time. Technical Support & Development Support Robotic Welding Technicians with routine weld process troubleshooting under the guidance of the Welding Engineer II, escalating complex issues as needed. Assist with developing offline robot weld programs, weld paths, and parameter sets, checking them against established standards before technician use. Learn welding metallurgy, process fundamentals, and robotic programming techniques through structured on-the-job training and mentorship from the Welding Engineer II and senior engineering staff. Build working relationships with the robotic welding team to understand shop-floor weld processes and constraints. Process & Procedure Support Assist in developing and documenting welding procedure specifications (WPS) and parameters for new materials, joint configurations, and customer processes under the direction of the Welding Engineer II. Learn to select and apply welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, Laser) appropriate to project requirements, with review from senior staff. Support Engineering in evaluating weld fixtures, robotic weld cell layouts, and tooling for part access, repeatability, and cycle time. Gather information on new welding equipment, consumables, and technologies to support evaluation efforts led by senior engineering staff. Project & Cross-Functional Support Provide entry-level technical input to project quoting and estimating regarding weld process feasibility, subject to review by senior staff. Assist Project Managers and the Welding Engineer II with tracking project schedules and weld process readiness. Support new equipment integration, robot commissioning, and process validation for new automation cells as part of a project team. Travel occasionally, as required, to support project commissioning or field service assignments alongside senior welding engineering staff. Actively pursue professional development in welding engineering, robotics, and automation, including progress toward relevant certifications. Comply with all quality and safety regulations. Other responsibilities as assigned.
