Description:

Responsibilities / Success Factors
  • Provide legal counsel on corporate, commercial, labor and employment matters, and other areas as assigned for Menasha and, working with other members of the Legal Department, its subsidiaries Menasha Packaging and ORBIS.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts.
  • Handle employment matters as they arise including questions regarding employment agreements, employee benefits, and compliance with state and federal employment and discrimination laws.
  • Serve as the primary legal support of Menasha's non-profit entities including drafting, reviewing, and managing corporate records, meeting materials, and supporting required tax and other filings.
  • Support the General Counsel with respect to shareholder relations and corporate governance.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and refinement of forms, policies, and procedures, and educate internal clients and stakeholders regarding them.
  • Assist in conducting internal investigations.
  • Independently handle legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex. Recognize when to elevate matters to the attention of the General Counsel and senior management.
  • Supervise, manage and evaluate outside counsel.


Qualifications / Skills Required
  • At least 7 years of substantive corporate or commercial experience with a corporate legal department or a nationally-recognized law firm.
  • Experience handling employment matters and/or litigation is a plus.
  • Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals at all levels and areas within the organization, from executive leadership to first-line supervisors; proactive in providing counsel to clients.
  • Exhibits a curiosity to learn new substantive areas and develop new skills.
  • Ability to promote and contribute to a team environment that encourages and supports inclusion to drive innovation and reach the best solutions to complex problems.
  • Sound judgment; exceptional integrity; ability to think critically, communicate complex matters clearly, make well-reasoned recommendations, and determine who should be kept informed.
  • High level of emotional intelligence.
  • Self-starter with good business sense and a sense of urgency, honesty and fairness.
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school and a valid attorney's license.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Availability outside of normal business hours.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume workplace environment.
  • Discretion as it relates to confidential or other sensitive matters -- enthusiasm and a good sense of humor are a plus.
