We're seeking a skilled Histotechnician to join our pathology team to work in an on-call capacity. Under the direction of the Medical Director and pathologists, you'll perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining-including H& E, IHC, and special stains-with precision and quality. You'll also support test validation, procedural compliance, and lab operations.
Schedule: On call - Monday - Friday, Variable start times between 3am to 7am, will work 8-10/hour shifts. Must be flexible to work an on-call variable schedule.
Key Responsibilities: - Prepare and stain tissue specimens following CLIA/CAP standards
- Perform IHC and special staining procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation in the LIS
- Conduct quality control and equipment maintenance
- Mentor new staff and contribute to training
- Participate in audits, continuing education, and safety protocols
Skills and Abilities: - Able to consistently demonstrate essential clinical competencies for this role and license/certification.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. face mask, goggles, gloves).
- Excellent understanding of Histology techniques.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with coworkers, lab managers, and pathologists.
- Ability to work independently while functioning as a team member.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workflow independently.
- Ability to multi-task while focusing on minute details. Excellent follow-through on all tasks required.
- Critical thinking skills required.
Education and Experience: - Certification as a Histotechnician (HT (ASCP)) or Histotechnologist (HTL (ASCP)) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required
- Maintenance of certification status and relevant CME requirements
- Minimum associate degree in biological or science field preferred
- Minimum of one-year experience as a Histology Technician required
- Previous experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) helpful
- Familiarity with lab safety, infection control, and biohazard disposal
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Pay Range:
$30.01 - $45.02
