Title: Youth Program Assistant

Department: Mission

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Hourly Rate: $22 - $26 / hr

Location: Dearborn Admin Building, Seattle

About the Position

The Youth Program Assistant will work jointly with the Youth Program Manager in the planning and implementation of daily events and activities for Youth, ages 15-21, in college and career preparation while prompting environmental stewardship, 21 st century digital skills and soft skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • This position will provide administrative support to the Youth Program Manager and Youth Program Specialist.
  • Ensure program calendar and schedules remain current and organized.
  • Send professional correspondence and communication on behalf of the program.
  • Support administrative functions and assist with day-to-day operations and office tasks.
  • Perform manual and electronic filing, manage student information, and maintain updated data and records.
  • Support program staff in all recruiting-related events, communications, and tasks.
  • Oversee the classroom environment to support youth and classroom goals.
  • Assist the instructor in providing a quality classroom experience by encouraging and supporting youth participants.
  • Assist the instructor in developing lesson plans aligned with the youth's goals.
  • Drive youth to field trips and provide off-site supervision.
  • Assist in organizing and supervising field trips, coordinating all meals for the program, and preparing classroom supplies and materials.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions, and develop and deliver presentations.
  • Collaborate with students, staff, and managers to purposefully work to implement student-centered DEI initiatives.
  • Responsible for supporting, advancing, and contributing to a DEI framework.
  • Upholds safe work practices in support of a safety culture through awareness and observation; assists in safety training of employees; reports any potential hazards or accidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Science, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education. Lived-experience and international experience considered in lieu of more traditional, US achieved credentials.
  • Experience: Must have experience working with multi-cultural youth who are experiencing multiple barriers to success. Minimum two years teaching/training experience. Minimum two years working with high school students, in coordinating partnerships with schools, data collection and reporting, and youth academic program development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with remote instruction a plus.
  • Multilingual skills a plus.
  • Success in simplifying and communicating complex ideas and tasks. Experience teaching/training students who may not have any formal education.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to work in an environment with very diverse group of people.
  • Must be committed to creating and sustaining a learning environment in which students feel safe, supported and encouraged; foster an environment that is inclusive, culturally rich, and bias free.

Computer/Technology Skills:
  • Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Proficient knowledge of Google Workspace a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.

Physical Abilities

Able to safely lift/push/ pull up to 25 lbs., grasp, handle, finger and manipulate items; perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms, standing for long periods of time. Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing; including those who have limited English skills, large and small groups, and individuals.

Work Environment: Office/classroom environment; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must have reliable transportation as this position requires travel to offsite meetings and events. Able to work a flexible schedule.
