Description:

Alaska Marine Lines is seeking a Business Analytics Intern to help support the business and operations teams to analyze processes, answer operational questions, and support data‑driven improvements. This role provides hands‑on experience with analytics, reporting, documentation, and entry‑level solution development while supporting the organization’s transition to modern analytics platforms. Interns work up to 40 hours per week for 10–12 weeks, with potential for extension based on performance and business need. This is not a safety sensitive position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Assist the Business Process Manager in working with business and operational leaders to understand workflows, data challenges, and information needs, and to help analyze opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the analysis and documentation of currentstate processes and data flows, helping to describe what is happening, where gaps exist, and what information is needed to support better decisions.
  • Help research, define, and validate data requirements in support of business questions, working with IT and BI colleagues to incorporate requirements into data sources and analytics solutions.
  • Assist in the development of entrylevel analytics, reports, dashboards, and automations that help improve visibility, efficiency, or decisionmaking, with guidance and review from senior staff.
  • Collaborate closely with the Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse team to support the delivery of analytics and reporting solutions.
  • Work with end users to promote usability and understanding of reports and analyses, helping build basic selfsufficiency where appropriate.
  • Participate in internal user groups or working sessions to support adoption, shared learning, and continuous improvement.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Successful candidates should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program. Candidates are required to have high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Experience or coursework with analytics and productivity tools such as Excel and Power BI is required. Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Power Automate, Tableau, SharePoint, SQL, or Python is preferred but not required.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to meet a regular work schedule.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn new tools in service of understanding and solving business problems.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. Daily physical presence is required.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to change focus and job duties in a fast moving, time restricted environment.
  • PC skills required: Windows, Outlook, keyboarding proficiency.
  • Use of a personal mobile device for essential work tasks such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), accessing Dayforce, and receiving time-sensitive communications.
