As the AI Solution Lead within our Synthetics Development team and play a pivotal role in reshaping how we develop small molecule medicine & therapies by leveraging AI technologies.

As an applied AI generalist, you will catalase change by inspiring scientist & engineers to adopt innovative AI solutions and will play a critical role in shaping the future of our small molecule R& D engine, ensuring we remain at the forefront of synthetic development and AI integration. You use your strong scientific background in chemistry, biochemistry or related scientific fields to link scientific challenges, needs & opportunities across our synthetic development functions to cutting-edge AI solutions.

AI solution lead, you start from the scientific challenge i.e. ‘the what’ and not the exact technical AI tooling on how to achieve “the how’: you are ready to take hands on approach in model building and execution and deliver first iteration of the “how”. You navigate both internal and external AI networks & partners and you will be the driving force to innovate how we work and develop our small molecule processes & products through AI.

You have a broad understanding of the AI technology field such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, Generative models, Expert Systems… and can relate this to fairness of data, data & information bias, explainability and the implications of autonomous decision-making

Role and responsibilities

AI solution lead

• Bridge scientific challenges to AI solutions and identify & analyze business needs within the Synthetics Development Organization and translate this effective AI solutions.
• Lead cross-functional AI projects that encompass a broad range of AI capabilities
• Collaborate with scientific domain experts and key users across the organization to capture needs & ensure alignment and integration of AI initiatives with organizational goals.
• Inspire and drive a culture of innovation by showcasing new ways of working through the application of AI technologies.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in AI, leveraging insights to rethink and optimize existing workflows.
• Facilitate workshops and training sessions to educate scientist, engineers & leaders within the organization on AI tools and methodologies.
• Establish and maintain relationships with internal & external AI networks and communities to bring in best practices and collaborative opportunities.
• Measure the impact of AI projects and report progress to senior management, ensuring transparency and accountability.
• Shape the AI strategy for the synthetic development organization, link this to existing platforms and identify opportunities for new capabilities

Active member of synthetic digital leadership team

• Shape the digital transformation strategy for the synthetic development organization and operationalize change and think beyond AI solutions
• Lead and sponsor data science lighthouse projects and strongholds to develop new digital capabilities and anchor them within the organization.
• Represent synthetic development within the wider TDS (Therapeutics Development & Supply) digital, data & AI projects & initiatives

Requirements

• A PhD in Science, Computer Science, Data Science or a related field combined with experience in a scientific environment
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in AI solution architecture or similar roles, preferably within the pharmaceuticals or life sciences sectors.
• Strong understanding of various AI technologies, including but not limited to Generative AI and Agentic AI: LLM, multimodal agents, knowledge graphs, vision AI, transformer models, ML (deep learning, transfer learning, reinforcement learning…)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse audiences.
• Strategic insight, strong personal leadership skills, detail oriented and a record of effective collaboration with diverse team members
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects in a cross-functional environment and inspire team collaboration.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
