Staff Accountant Summary/Objective The Staff Accountant must have a strong understanding of accounting principles. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance, managing job cost tracking, and supporting the company's financial objectives. This position requires excellent attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Primary Job Responsibilities Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. · General Ledger Maintenance: Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and account reconciliations, ensuring accurate financial data for month-end and year-end close processes. · Accounts Payable: Manage and process report vendors, subcontractor payments. · Accounts Receivable: Manage and process aging report, AIA, customer payments. · Job Costing & Project Accounting: Track and report project costs, including labor, materials, and overhead. Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate cost allocation, budget monitoring, and forecasting. · Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with tax regulations, licensing requirements, and industry standards. Assist with audits, both internal and external, by preparing necessary documentation. · Payroll Support: Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring accurate job cost allocations and compliance with labor laws. · Vendor & Client Relations: Communicate with vendors and clients to resolve any billing or payment issues and ensure smooth financial operations. Other Responsibilities • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting packages.• Maintain organized accounting records and support document retention requirements.• Assist with preparation of financial schedules, management reports, and ad-hoc analysis as requested.• Support implementation and improvement of accounting processes, controls, and standard operating procedures.• Back up other Accounting team functions as needed (AP, AR, job costing, payroll support). Competencies, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications • Construction accounting knowledge (job costing, AIA billing, WIP/percentage of completion preferred).• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with financial data.• Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently.• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, QuickBooks) and HRIS/payroll systems (e.g., UKG).• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data validation).• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with project managers, vendors, and clients.• Time management skills; ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.• Integrity, accountability, and commitment to confidentiality when handling sensitive information.• Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred). Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment This position primarily works in an office environment. Occasional visits to active construction project sites may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. · This position may require long periods of sitting and looking at a computer screen, using the phone and other technology. · This role may require occasional lifting of files/boxes up to 15 lbs. Expected Hours of WorkMonday through Friday, 8: 00 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m. Additional hours may be required to meet business needs, including month-end and year-end close. Travel Occasional local travel to project sites or other company locations may be required (less than 10%). Required Education and Experience• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required (or equivalent experience).• 3+ years of accounting experience required; construction industry experience strongly preferred. Pay Transparency Statement The salary range for this position is $31.25 - $40.86 per hour (MidAtlantic Region). This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range. As a result, starting pay may vary within the posted range. The Company reserves the right to modify compensation and benefits programs in accordance with applicable laws and business needs.
