Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic
Surface Transportation Lead to oversee complex transportation design projects and drive operational excellence across multidisciplinary teams. This leadership role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep expertise in civil and transportation engineering, particularly within the Mid-Atlantic region.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and manage transportation design projects involving roadway, rail, and bridge rehabilitation.
- Oversee organizational performance across multiple departments and disciplines including structures, drainage, geotechnical, and environmental.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for VDOT, passenger rail agencies, and local government clients.
- Ensure quality assurance, financial performance, and timely execution of multiple simultaneous projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive project success.
- Review and engage with design work using platforms such as InRoads and Blue Beam.
Professional Requirements - Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering design experience.
- At least 10 years of project management experience.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in Virginia required; PE in Maryland, North Carolina, or South Carolina is a plus.
- Proven experience with VDOT and passenger rail agencies.
- Strong operational management experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard design software (InRoads, Blue Beam).
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in bridge rehabilitation design and rating analysis.
- Familiarity with transportation/infrastructure agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Experience managing projects involving multiple disciplines such as roadway, structures, drainage, geotechnical, and environmental.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise execution, financial performance, and quality assurance of multiple simultaneous projects.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to partner effectively across levels and disciplines.
CompensationThe approximate compensation range for this position is $180, 000 - $235, 000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
