Description:

Harbor Group Management Company, a Norfolk, Virginia based real estate investment and property management firm, has an immediate need for a Director of People Experience at our corporate office in Norfolk, VA. Are you the one?

Job Summary: This role will lead and shape our HR Business Partner function to drive the engagement and retention of team members with a specific focus on performance management, employee relations, people experience & employee lifecycle from onboarding to exit.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Design and implement comprehensive performance management frameworks that align individual goals with organizational objectives.
  • Develop and maintain team member listening strategies, including surveys, focus groups and feedback channels.
  • Oversee the employee lifecycle, from onboarding to exit, ensuring positive touchpoints throughout.
  • Create and execute initiatives that enhance workplace satisfaction and engagement.
  • Partner with the Learning & Development team to design, promote and successfully implement management training initiatives to develop talent from within the organization, ensuring a strong pipeline of future leaders.
  • Lead and oversee investigations, ensuring timely and fair resolution of workplace disputes and grievances.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive employee relations strategies to enhance workplace culture and employee engagement.
  • Prepare and present reports on employee relations metrics identifying trends and outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to senior leadership on employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition team to lead the due diligence of people during acquisition activities through integration, change management strategy and implementation.
  • Partner cross-functionally to identify key people initiatives and innovative solutions related to the team member experience.




Qualifications and Experience.


  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of human resources experience, with 5 years in a leadership role.
  • SHRM SCP or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal employment and fair labor laws, practices, and regulations.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong collaborator that is capable of building and managing strong working relationships across organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest levels of confidence and build trust.
  • Are hands-on, results-driven, and self-motivated with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment, while having fun!
  • Ability to conceptualize and research new ideas; detail-minded; strong change management and highly effective problem-solving skills.
  • Business acumen with experience in quantitative results and KPIs measurement.
  • Are adaptable and can navigate ambiguity and can therefore balance big picture strategic long-term thinking and short-term tactical execution.
