Job Overview

Calvert Masonry Inc. is seeking a skilled, hands-on Foreman to lead frontline field crews on commercial projects. In this role, you will have primary responsibility for day-to-day field operations of the project to which they are assigned and serve as Calvert’s primary field representative on that project. They will direct Foreman 1A/1B personnel and crews of varying size, including medium to large crews of up to approximately 40 employees. Project/Lead Foremen will serve at the direction of the assigned Superintendent and work closely with the Project Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and supervise daily masonry operations, including manpower assignments, sequencing, layout, material flow and equipment utilization to maintain safe and productive operations.
  • Direct personnel assigned to the project; monitor workforce productivity, quality and safety and adjust work assignments and crew organization as required.
  • Serve as Calvert’s primary field point of contact with the General Contractor and coordinate Calvert’s work with the GC and other trades regarding schedule, access, sequencing and other conditions affecting masonry operations. Participate in project specific coordination meetings
  • Review contract and shop drawings sufficiently to plan and direct the work; identify conflicts, missing information, changed conditions or other issues and timely communicate them to the Project Manager and Superintendent.
  • Maintain material inventories, forecast project needs and coordinate material orders and deliveries sufficiently in advance to avoid interruption of production.
  • Monitor project schedule and short-term requirements; plan Calvert’s work accordingly and promptly advise the Superintendent and Project Manager of conditions affecting schedule, manpower, productivity, cost or time of performance.
  • Maintain required project documentation including daily reports, in-place production quantities, equipment/scaffold inspections, delivery tickets and other field records.
  • Plan and coordinate project equipment, scaffold and logistical needs and timely communicate requirements for additional manpower, equipment or company resources to the Superintendent.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Superintendent and Project Manager regarding project status and promptly elevate issues requiring additional assistance or management action.
  • Knowledgeable in equipment operation, scaffold systems, crane rigging/hoisting, masonry and grout systems and techniques, and through-wall flashing systems, including applicable safety and maintenance requirements.
  • Promptly elevate issues that cannot reasonably be resolved at the field level to the Superintendent or Project manager, providing sufficient information for Calvert management to understand the issue and determine the required action.
  • Perform specific operational task assignments at discretion of Director of Field Operations and, depending on project and crew size, perform production work with tools/hands as needed.
  • Depending on project size, crew size and operational needs, perform production work with their tools/hands as needed; however, the Project/Lead Foreman’s primary responsibility is the planning, direction, coordination and supervision of the project’s field operations.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on commercial construction experience preferably in masonry (brick, block, stone, structural grout), with prior lead or foreman experience preferred.
  • Solid ability to read blueprints, project elevations, shop drawings, and layout markers.
  • Working knowledge of scaffold safety (OSHA guidelines), rigging, and jobsite hazard identification.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Certification (or ability to complete upon hire).
  • Strong interpersonal and crew leadership abilities; bilingual communication (English/Spanish) is a strong advantage.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
