Wintrust Financial Corporation is hiring!

Description:

Wintrust Asset Finance is an equipment-focused financing group that offers sophisticated loan and lease products to commercial companies throughout the country in a wide range of industries, including transportation, construction, manufacturing, energy services, aviation, and turn-key property, plant, and equipment, among others. Wintrust Asset Finance is an affiliate of Wintrust, a financial services company with more than $66 billion in assets.

Wintrust Commercial Finance is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Renewable Energy Sales Representative to originate, structure, and close sale-leaseback transactions for renewable energy assets. This role focuses on working with project developers and sponsors, asset owners, lenders, municipalities, and other investors to monetize renewable energy projects primarily through sale-leaseback financing structures.

The position requires full lifecycle ownership of transactions—marshalling opportunities from initial outreach and structuring through review and diligence, negotiation, closing, and post-close relationship management and expansion.

Why Join Us

Join a fast-growing sector at the forefront of the energy transition. You’ll play a critical role in unlocking capital for renewable energy deployment across both private and public sectors—owning transactions from first conversation through closing and helping bring impactful projects to life.

What You'll Do

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with renewable energy developers, lenders, industry consultants and advisors, municipalities, and public-sector entities
  • Originate sale-leaseback transactions for solar, fuel cells, energy storage, and other renewable assets, including municipally owned or supported projects
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects and strategic partners across both private and public sectors
  • Shepherd transactions end-to-end, managing the full deal lifecycle from origination through issuing term sheets, pricing, underwriting, diligence, negotiation, documentation, closing, and funding
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders throughout the transaction process
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (finance, legal, asset management, underwriting, and external advisors) to ensure timely execution and alignment
  • Educate clients—including cities, counties, school districts, and utilities—on sale-leaseback structures, tax-exempt financing considerations, and financial outcomes
  • Structure deals in collaboration with internal teams, incorporating municipal finance tools where applicable (e.g., tax-exempt leases, bonds, public-private partnerships)
  • Lead negotiations, manage transaction timelines, and proactively resolve issues to keep deals on track
  • Analyze project financials, including PPA and REC cash flows, tax equity considerations, municipal credit profiles, and ROI metrics
  • Maintain relationships with investors, lessors, capital providers, and public finance stakeholders, and key industry players
  • Stay current on market trends, tax incentives, regulations and practices, municipal finance regulations, and additional renewable energy policy developments
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, public and private sector forums, and client meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Energy, Public Administration, or related field (MBA, MPA, or advanced degree preferred)
  • 3–7+ years of experience in renewable energy finance, project finance, structured finance, municipal finance, or B2B sales
  • Proven track record of successfully originating and closing transactions from start to finish, including managing complex, multi-party deals
  • Strong understanding of sale-leaseback structures, tax equity, and project finance fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of municipal finance structures (e.g., tax-exempt leasing, municipal bonds, credit analysis, public procurement processes)
  • Familiarity with solar, wind, or energy storage markets
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across both private and public stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple deals simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and CRM tools

Preferred Skills

  • Existing network within renewable energy developers, municipalities, utilities, or public finance professionals
  • Experience with SuperTrump and/or ABC pricing tools, inclusive of structuring tax-exempt and 467 Loans and associated requirements
  • Knowledge of federal and state incentives (e.g., ITC, RECs and associated RPS programs) and how they interact with public-sector financing and impact both commercial and municipal structures
  • Experience working with legal and financial documentation (PPAs, leases, loans, interconnection agreements, SPVs, etc.)
  • Understanding of public-private partnership (P3) structures
