This role is a developmental leadership position designed to prepare a highly experienced field service professional for future progression into a Field Service Manager role. The incumbent will continue to perform hands-on field service assignments while progressively assuming leadership, operational, customer relationship, and personnel management responsibilities.
Acting as both a technical expert and emerging leader, this role supports the execution of field service operations, mentors service personnel, assists with resource planning and customer management, and serves as the primary backup to the Sr. Field Service Manager. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence while building the technical, product and leadership competencies necessary to successfully manage a field service organization for high complex rotating equipment.

The role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence while building the technical, product and leadership competencies necessary to successfully manage a field service organization for high complex rotating equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Examine, inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, reassemble, overhaul, and perform maintenance on rotating equipment, including Voith Hydrodynamic and Geared Industrial products.
- Perform commissioning, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, startup support, and troubleshooting activities at customer facilities.
- Lead complex field service assignments and act as the senior technical resource on-site.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Field Service Reps and less experienced personnel.
- Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and industry safety requirements.
- Review service reports and technical findings to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Promote best practices and continuous improvement in field service execution.
- Support the Field Service Manager in the daily execution of service operations.
- Assist with technician scheduling, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
- Participate in service forecasting, workload management, and project planning activities.
- Coordinate field service activities to ensure customer commitments are met safely, on time, and within budget.
- Monitor service quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction metrics.
- Assist in the development and implementation of service processes and operational improvements.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new service personnel.
- Serve as acting Field Service Manager during periods of absence or as delegated.
- Serve as a trusted customer representative and maintain long-term customer relationships.
- Participate in customer meetings, site reviews, and service planning discussions.
- Manage customer escalations and support resolution of technical and operational issues.
- Identify opportunities for service growth, upgrades, maintenance agreements, and aftermarket sales.
- Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Service teams to deliver complete customer solutions.
- Review and approve service documentation, expense reports, and timesheets as delegated.
- Ensure accurate service records, reports, and customer documentation are maintained.
- Monitor KPIs, service metrics, and operational reports.
- Complete special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by Service Leadership.
- 8+ years of field service experience in rotating equipment, power generation, oil & gas, industrial transmission, or related industries.
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintaining rotating equipment.
- Proven leadership capability with experience leading field crews, projects, or service teams.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of industrial power transmission equipment, gear units, couplings, fluid couplings, compressors, turbines, pumps, or similar rotating machinery.
- Strong customer-facing and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to influence others and lead without direct authority.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Mechanical Engineering degree, Engineering Technology degree, or equivalent industry experience.
- Prior supervisory, team lead, project management, or service coordination experience.
- Experience with service planning, workforce scheduling, or operational management.
- Knowledge of SAP, Salesforce, or related ERP/CRM systems.
- Experience supporting Power Generation and Oil & Gas customers.
- Up to 70% travel within North America.
- Occasional international travel may be required.
- Availability for emergency customer support and frequent after-hours work.
