Position Summary:

This Software Developer position will support the development and maintenance of our Father's Playbook mobile application. This position analyzes problems and designs solutions to develop new features, address bugs, and ensure the app meets industry standards. This position will perform application development and system integration using various programming languages and tools, such as Flutter, JAVA/Kotlin, and Swift. This position will work closely with the Texas Safe Babies primary investigator, web developer, and database administrator. This position will also interact with the UTHealth AWS team. Texas Safe Babies is a project that develops and distributes supportive education to new parents. The Father's Playbook app is one of our cornerstone projects that helps new dads prepare for the arrival of their child and support their pregnant partner.

This is a part-time and hybrid position in Austin, TX. The position is funded for one year and will be continued based on further grant funding.

Position Key Accountabilities:

• Coding: Writes clean, efficient, and well-documented code using Swift/Objective-C, Java/Kotlin, and/or Dart, with a strong focus on mobile UI/UX best practices.

• App Deployment: Build, test, and deploy apps on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store

• Technical Leadership: Provides technical guidance and mentorship to student developers, helping them grow and succeed in their roles

• Problem Solving: Analyzes and troubleshoots technical issues, and proposes solutions to address them effectively

• Testing and Collaboration: Works closely with cross-functional teams and participates in testing (TestFlight/Google Play internal testing) and debugging to deliver high-quality software solutions

• Documentation: Writes and maintains documentation for code, processes, and project-related information to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C++)

• Excellent technical and general communication skills, both oral and written.

• Proficiency with Web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript is desirable.

Preferred:

• Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Swift, Java/Kotlin, and Dart (Flutter)

• Proficient in building/implementing mobile backend services and integrating with cloud services such as AWS

• Proficiency with development on multiple mobile platforms (iOS/Android) and agnostic/cross-compatible platforms (Flutter).

Minimum Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field required May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
