We are hiring a Senior Project Manager (full-time) to join UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, Tx. In this role, you will plan, supervise, organize, and coordinate project management and key research activities across multiple studies and projects. You will oversee and ensure the implementation of research activities, including management and analysis of research data, management of research staff, project timelines and deliverables, and budgets.

Position Summary:

Plans, supervises, organizes, and coordinates project management and key research activities across multiple studies and projects. Oversees and ensures the implementation of research activities, including management and analysis of research data, management of research staff, project timelines and deliverables, and budgets. Supports faculty in development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to local, state, and federal funding agencies.

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Coordination and management of project planning, project development, and strategic planning among various staff, and determines proper project delivery methods.
  • Oversees and performs cost estimating, design, project scheduling, and budgeting, quality assurance, communication, procurement, project closeout, and direct billing of purchase orders for multiple project sites and customers across all project platforms.
  • Identify, develop, and gather resources to complete the project. This includes: developing project schedules, developing and monitoring budgets and forecasts, and selecting materials, equipment, and project staff. May liaise with other operational areas in the organization to secure specialized resources and contributions for the project.
  • Manages research projects, including maintaining accurate up-to-date accounting of the project status (e.g. recruitment, retention, supplies, completion of study procedures).
  • Manages ongoing procurements and vendor relationships for state initiatives. Oversees the submission and renewals of formal proposals with administration, UTHealth's legal department, and outreach site administrators to generate new income and retention of project sites.
  • Ensures project controls, tracking and performance measurement, reporting and project delivery objectives are met. This includes preparing progress reports for management, sponsors, and governmental agencies. Monitor progress and performance against the project plan; take action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays.
  • Assists the principal investigator in obtaining grant funds and other types of financial support for research projects, through the discovery of potential funding mechanisms, writing (with the principal investigator) grant proposals, grant applications, and any resubmissions, grant progress reports, among other funding mechanism-related requirements.
  • Oversees and maintains communications and strong working relationships, internally and externally, with research team members, partner institutions, faculty, staff, subcontractors, and community partners.
  • Responsible for assisting with the management, implementation, and launch of new projects and services. Supports upper management with long-term planning, external relationship development, and staff development.
  • Identifies problems and trends across research projects, recommending procedural changes as appropriate. Develops and ensures the successful implementation of the manual of procedures across projects.
  • Develops, monitors, and works within budgets across projects.
  • Conduct onsite visits, meetings, observations, and on-the-job training. Also directs and creates professional development, staff training, and mentoring for all project staff.
  • Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regard to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of data dissemination products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Leadership and Planning, Administration, or related field required

Minimum Experience:
  • 7 years of experience in project management required

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
