The Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston has a strong history in memory research and the underlying mechanisms of neuroplasticity. Research carried out by our faculty members ranges from identifying the molecules required for memory formation to how memory is stored at the systems level within the brain. Position Summary: Oversees and coordinates all communications and event activities of a particular program/department in areas including but not limited to community relations, research or student recruitment programs.
Position Key Accountabilities: Working in conjunction with Public Affairs, creates and edits various communications materials for the department, which may include printed materials, web site content and/or department newsletters. Plans and coordinates small to large-scale events and/or conferences. Includes setting up schedules, locations, tours, speakers/visitors, food and room layout. Monitors budget allocations. Interacts with the public and/or external organizations to facilitate events/programs. Prepares meeting agendas, maintains minutes and coordinates ongoing communication for various department workgroups or committees. Makes complex administrative decisions requiring a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of regulations, policies, and procedures. Ensures that plan and protocols are followed to ensure compliance with all federal, state laws and UTH policies and rules and regulations. Keeps abreast of activities, news, and other general information in areas of program specialty. Other duties as assigned.Certification/Skills: Excellent written and verbal skills.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or relevant work experience in lieu of education.
Minimum Experience: Three years of related experience.
Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive: This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position.
