UTHealth Houston's Neurology Research Department is seeking a Seasonal Hire. Responsibilities will include project management and coordination, research activities, data management and reporting, and administrative support and collaboration. The schedule is for no more than 20 hrs./wk. This is a great opportunity for a PhD candidate who may be looking for seasonal work.

This position is funded by grants that comprise 50% or more of the funding. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon the availability of funding for this position. Your employment may end upon the cancellation or discontinuation of the project, program, or funding.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This Research Coordinator II position will assist with the day-to-day administrative project management of the Assessing the Effects of Photobiomodulation on Clinical Recovery from Concussion in Adolescents research project. They may assist in providing scientific direction for research project of considerable scope and complexity.

The position is a grant funded position with expiration of funds in February of 2026 with the anticipation the grant will be extended with acceptable progress. The project is funded by Mission Connect TIRR Foundation. Opportunity for continued employment is based on apply and receiving new funding.

POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Job Description - Research Project Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Research Project Coordinator provides comprehensive day-to-day management and operational support for research project. This role ensures that all aspects of the project, from recruitment to data integrity are executed efficiently, ethically, and in alignment with project goals, timelines, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management & Coordination
  • Oversees daily operations of research projects, including coordination of personnel, facilities, supplies, and budgetary resources to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Keeps project on schedule and within scope and budget, preparing regular progress reports and updates.
  • Coordinates meetings, research activities, and project-related communications.
  • Attends research planning meetings to discuss deliverables and provide status updates.
  • Works closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects to ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting.

Research Activities
  • Recruits and screens potential research participants from a clinical practice at designated locations.
  • Obtains informed consent, administers questionnaires, and collects data.
  • Schedules participants for research procedures and accompanies them to the medical school for neuroimaging assessments.
  • Manages participant reimbursement paperwork and ensures participant follow-up.

Data Management & Reporting
  • Maintains confidential records of collected data, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with research protocols.
  • Enters and manages data in research databases.

Administrative Support & Collaboration
  • Provides administrative direction and guidance to departmental staff involved in research activities.
  • Interacts with representatives from funding organization to support project goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the success of the research project.


CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Working knowledge of MS Office.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in a related field or relevant experience in lieu of education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of relevant experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

SECURITY SENSITIVE: This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
