The Department of Epidemiology, at the UTHealth School of Public Health is seeking an exceptional candidate for a post-doctoral fellowship position. This person will have the opportunity to conduct vector control studies. The goal of this project is to develop CRISPR-based strategies to manage mosquito populations and reduce the impact of vector-borne diseases. Specifically, the postdoc will employ Drosophila and Aedes aegypti insects to develop genetic tools that will increase our available toolkit for controlling mosquito populations. This position will involve molecular work (cloning, PCR), insect transgenesis and handling insects for testing our CRISPR-based methods. Also, the postdoc will help writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, reports, and attend conferences. The candidate will gain experience in grantsmanship, as well as research design, planning, and execution.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in biology, genetics, entomology or related topics. Applicants with a doctoral degree in another discipline may be considered if they possess adequate skills to conduct population research. Preferred skills include mosquito experience and molecular biology. Other candidates are also encouraged to apply.

Preferred experience/skills: - Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in biology, genetics, entomology or related field.
- Experience with mosquitoes and molecular biology, strongly preferred.
Minimum Education: Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
