Description:

Candidates are being considered for a research postdoctoral fellowship at the Houston Psychosis Research Center led by Dr. L. Elliot Hong in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

The position is a 2-year fellowship, with options to extend to 3-4 years. Research at the Houston Psychosis Research Center is focused on discovering biomarkers and corresponding prevention and intervention strategies for psychotic disorders. The fellow will be fully supported by ongoing NIMH-funded projects, including using cutting-edge brain imaging, electrophysiology, and neuromodulation techniques to target core psychopathologies in schizophrenia, and using cognitive behavioral interventions for children and young adults with elevated risk for psychosis. Optional clinical training through the Psychosis Specialty Clinic is also available, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.

Candidates should have experience with conducting clinical interviews, assessments, and evidence-based interventions for child and adult populations with or at risk for psychotic disorders are desirable. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
2. Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
3. Reads and evaluates literature.
4. Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
5. Have strong written and oral communication skills.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Doctoral/Terminal Degree. Applicants should ideally have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
