Description:

The UT Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking a motivated and driven postdoctoral researcher for translational biomedical engineering research primarily in cardiovascular disease to join Dr. Venkat Keshav Chivukula's Center for Intelligence Research in Cardiac and PuLmonary ThErapies (CIRCLE) Laboratory. This postdoctoral research position will support ongoing projects in advanced heart failure and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy with an emphasis on hemodynamic modeling and optimization. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to multidisciplinary projects focusing on pulmonary health, medical devices and neurovascular links of heart failure disease therapy.

This is a 1 year position that may be renewed dependent on available funding.

Position Summary:

A postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Key accountabilities:

• Plans and conducts modeling studies, analyzes data and prepares publications and grant proposals

• Apply computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models in a patient-specific and patient-derived framework to analyze hemodynamics within cardiac regions of interest

• Apply machine learning / artificial intelligence techniques to develop predictive hemodynamic models of LVAD and medical device therapy for cardiovascular disease treatment optimization and risk prediction

• Work with multi-modal data including imaging, hemodynamics, patient charts and CFD-derived data to explore creation of digital twins and predictive models

• Have strong written and oral communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary personnel and individuals at all levels

• Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills:

• PhD in Biomedical Engineering, data science or associated field with experience in developing, implementing and deploying machine learning models

• Experience in python or other programming languages is a must

• Experience working with volumetric (3D) data such as point clouds, STL files, dynamic velocity flow fields is highly preferred

• Experience with tensorflow and deep learning

• Experience with medical imaging such as CT and ultrasound
