UTHealth Houston's School of Behavioral Health Sciences is hiring a Manager, Clinical Biomedical Engineering!This research work will be centered on advancing a systems-based biochemical approach to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. It focuses on scaling biochemical and metabolomic data to improve insights into disease heterogeneity and treatment response. A key component of this work involves the application of metabolomics and pharmacometabolomics to evaluate drug effects and support precision medicine initiatives. Position Summary: This position supports epilepsy clinical operations in a management capacity. To provide oversight of signal and image processing for epilepsy patient management and surgery. To manage clinical databasing, technology and resource management, infrastructural support, and compliance assurance, clinician scientists, and researchers. The individual also supervises technical personnel, including recruiting, training, and evaluating performance.
Position Key Accountabilities: - Oversee epilepsy clinical operations to ensure appropriate service levels through personnel management, which involves effectively resolving issues directly or through the direction of staff, monitoring and evaluating staff for ongoing and annual performance appraisal, managing technician workloads, onboarding and training EEG staff to navigate and use new software, technology, and methodologies. Reports to director on project, task and workload status and statistics/performance measures.
- Manage implementation of new clinical services, systems or technologies for the adult EMU, UTP clinic and research teams. Establish and maintain department engineering standards and practices. Work with department leadership to plan and execute operational strategies related to clinical systems and integration. Determine business requirements and needs of clinical and research programs, identifies key performance factors, defines projects and priorities, establishes standards related to department/program operations; recommends and allocates resources based on business priorities.
- Assist Epileptologists and Neurosurgeons in the planning and treatment of epilepsy patients by performing signal and image processing, specifically clinical evaluation by post processing (3D reconstructions with exact 3D location of invasive electrodes) of all MRI studies performed in patients with invasive electrodes.
- Perform anatomical image processing to identify seizure focus: MRI morphometric analysis, regional parcellation, PET/SPECT to MRI fusion, quantitative testing to study heterogeneous brain differences, signal process EEG data and perform source localization using MatLab, BESA, Curry, BrainStorm, etc.
- Builds, troubleshoots, and maintains clinical patient databases (EpiToMe) for EEG, evoked potential reports, ambulatory EEG and query processing both for administrative and research needs.
- Manage database implementation and lifecycle by working with end users, other departments, and the IS Data and Analytics team to research, document and resolve system issues and/or develop new processes for improvement.
- Collaborate with IS Data and Analytics team to manage testing and approval of updates, upgrades, and modifications specific to EEG or imaging acquisition/review systems. Attends to physician/clinician scientist requirements by fabricating devices or tools to study patient response in response to seizure or stimulus.
- Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Minimum Education: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering or a related field required
Minimum Experience: 8 years of postgraduate experience in a related field required. Programming expertise and project management experience with knowledge of operations systems and programming languages, Matlab, UNIX, bash, HTML, CSS, Java, and C++ required
Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
