UTHealth Houston's School of Dentistry is hiring a
Lead Dental Assistant to join their team of professionals in the Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics department. The Lead DA will be responsible for overseeing daily clinic operations and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols. chair-side assistance to students and faculty, sterilization, inventory control, training
, and more. Certified Dental Practice Management Administrator (CDPMA) is preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish speaking) is also plus!

Position Summary: Performs expanded administrative tasks. Independently performs a variety of tasks to assist in prophylactic, therapeutic, and surgical treatment of oral and maxillofacial patients.
Position Key Accountabilities: - Provides chair side assistance to students and faculty.
- Sterilizes instruments and set up instrument trays. Maintains inventory control.
- Prepares and submits clinical activity log as well as other reports.
- Trains new employees, answers telephones, and other clerical duties such as scheduling.
- Provides input for interview, hiring, and performance evaluation for Dental Assistants.
- Maintains recall database to call patients back before discharging back to private sector.
- May maintain resident or student database by inputting data for all faculty, residents, and patients and collects student exit evaluation information. May provide guidance, training, and evaluations to dental assistant students.
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
- Lead the activities of support staff within a small unit/division/department.
- Provide Human Resources input for the interview, hiring, and performance evaluation process of Dental Assistants.
- May perform expanded administrative tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills: - Dental Assistant by Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) required
- Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) required or
- Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA) by Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) required or
- Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination (DAANCE) by American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) required
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum Experience: 7 years of dental assistant experience required 5 years of dental assistant experience and completion of an accredited dental assistant program required
Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive: This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
