Job Description
UTHealth is hiring a International Visitor Advisor I or II in Office of International Affairs in Houston, TX. This is a full-time position.
We are looking for an International Visitor Advisor I in the Office of International Affairs, and may consider candidates with more relevant experience for a level II position. This role is responsible for assisting all international students, staff, and faculty within our organization in navigating immigration processes. Previous experience as a DSO (Designated School Official) and/or ARO (Alternate Responsible Officer) is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate will have experience in international education or immigration.
This role involves processing visa sponsorship, which may include submitting applications to USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services), signing legal immigration documents for international visitors, and ensuring compliance with the institution's non-immigrant visa program.
This full-time, salaried, exempt position will report to our University Center Tower located in the medical center at the intersection of Fannin and Pressler. The building is on the Metro Rail line and easily accessible by bus. This role requires you to report to work Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with a hybrid schedule that includes up to two remote days per week. Due to the nature of the role, this position may require occasional visits to the office. This position is eligible for full benefits, including healthcare and a retirement program administered by the State of Texas.
U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Lawful Permanent Residence is required for certification as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) by the federal government.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be either a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident. Federal Code of Regulation 8 C.F.R. 214.3 (1)(1).

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4.

Position Key Accountabilities:
- Processes visa sponsorships such as the F-1 student visa or the J-1 student visa
- Verifies independent employment authorization or visa status for prospective UTHealth Houston employees or students to be able to start their position with our institution
- Serves as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) or Designated School Official (DSO) for UTHealth Houston's F-1 and J-1 programs for the purposes of creating records, signing immigration forms, and validating the international student or scholar's arrival to UTHealth Houston
- Advises administrators, school officials, and visitors on visa restrictions and visa options as it relates to studying and possible employment
- Give presentations, open forums, and orientations to the international community at UTHealth Houston
- Issues appropriate visa clearances to Human Resources, Payroll, sponsoring department and other applicable administrative offices for the purpose of educational, visiting, training, and/or employment appointments
- Performs other duties as assigned.
