Description:
McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, is seeking applicants for a Non-Tenure Track Faculty position. The Instructor/Assistant Professor of The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) - Gastroenterology Research Center (GRC) will work independently in a multidisciplinary supervised environment on murine and patient-derived samples to study pathogenesis of GI diseases, including aging pathways and cancer. The selected candidate has experience working with cell culture and cell treatments as well as with lab-based assays, including protein and RNA-based techniques. This role is expected to be able to draft results of the studies being generated on circadian and microbiota experiments
Position Key Accountabilities:
• Interpret and prepare results on omics data (circadian and microbiome-related).
• Develop and maintain organoids from human and mice samples.
• Develop and maintain immune cells (i.e., macrophages, myofibroblasts, T cells).
• Conduct in vitro growth of organoids, and immune cells, and perform and optimize co-culture experiments in transwel l.
• Perform DNA extraction, gene expression (qPCR), and protein measurements (western blot, ELISA, and immunofluorescence).
• Perform co-culture and optimize drug testing on cells and organoids
• Be familiar with high-throughput knock-in and knock-out cell-based screening.
• Be familiar with live image monitoring based on luciferase and fluorescence signals.
• Work closely with bioinformatics platforms and scientists to generate outputs from circadian and microbiota data.
• Analyze data and generate figures using scientific computer software (SPSS, R, Prism) and share data with the group for feedback,
as well as troubleshooting
• Data visualization, interpretation, and paper drafting
• Application to intra and extramural funding applications
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in molecular biology with hands-on experience in both in vitro and in vivo studies. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to identify project needs and coordinate the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies . Proficiency in Microsoft Office, scientific software such as R and GraphPad Prism, and basic imaging tools, including Adobe Photoshop and ImageJ, is required . Experience with database management is also preferre d.
