Description:

The Department of Neurosurgery of McGovern Medical School at UT Health Houston is seeking applications for a fellowship-trained stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgeon to join a large and vibrant department at all ranks - Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Our multidisciplinary department includes more than 45 clinical and 20 research faculty members. This is a full-time, tenure-track position based at Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center, located in one of the largest and busiest conglomerations of healthcare facilities in the world.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The successful candidate will primarily focus on the surgical treatment of movement disorders, collaborating with five movement disorder-certified neurologists whose practices include Parkinson's Disease, Dystonia, Essential Tremor, spasticity, and Huntington's disease. The candidate will also participate in resident and fellow instruction in both operating room and bedside settings, with responsibilities in teaching, research, and academic activities. Joining the faculty at The Texas Institute for Restorative Neurotechnologies (TIRN ), a multidisciplinary institute, the candidate will contribute to advances in neuroscience, neuro-technology, and neuro-informatics related to brain disorders.

A research support package will be provided based on seniority and prior achievements, and the appointee may be considered for a McNair Scholarship at UT Health Houston, depending on previous accomplishments.

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified neurosurgeon.
  • Fellowship-trained in stereotactic neurosurgery.
  • Experience in patient selection, MER, and programming of all available devices.
  • Collaboration with psychiatrists involved in clinical trials for depression, OCD, and other mental illnesses.
  • Proven track record of clinical and research excellence.


Preferred:

  • Expertise in neuromodulation for pain and/or psychiatric illness.
  • Experience in obtaining extramural funding, innovation, and high-impact publications.
