UTHealth Houston's Behavioral Sciences Campus, the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the country, is hiring Admissions Coordinators to join our Admissions team! We have multiple shifts available.

Available schedules, with rotating weekends and holidays:
  • 1 Coordinator needed for 7 AM to 3 PM
  • 2 Coordinators needed for 3 PM to 11: 30 PM
  • 1 Coordinator needed for 11 PM to 7: 30 AM

The John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center and Harris County Psychiatric Center at UTHealth Houstoncreate our Behavioral Sciences Campus. BSC offers individualized inpatient treatment options for a variety of behavioral health disorders across the 23 units on-site. These units include treatment in child/adolescent, adult/geriatric, co-occurring disease, psychosis, and competency restoration units.

The Admission Coordinator is responsible for managing and facilitating the patient admission process. Key duties include signing patients in for admission, processing and reviewing warrants for involuntary admissions, and inventorying patient property upon intake. The role involves managing incoming RightFax documents, answering phone calls, and maintaining clear communication with referring hospitals. The admission coordinator also updates bed availability at the start of each shift and collaborates closely with the department's RNs to ensure smooth transitions and coordinated care. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for this role.

All BSC employees go through a mandatory 2-week hospital-wide orientation. Monday through Friday, 8: 00am - 4: 30pm.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of moderately complex task to include the communication and coordination of pre-admissions and admissions functions.

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Handles inquiries, collects and processes documents, record keeps, and reports complications for all pre-admissions, direct admissions, walk- ins, and warrants.
  • Coordinates bed allocation and cancellations between HCPI, Probate Courts, and MHMRA services and the Centers of Excellence Units at HCPC.
  • Uses insurance software systems to search for patients in government sponsored insurance programs.
  • Provides patient property control and conducts searches of all patient property and belongings.
  • Interviews and communicates with patient and family members to obtain information.
  • Reviews all clinical and financial packets to determine completeness and account for all admissions and pre-admits.
  • Performs all discharges, transfers, programs changes in the software system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Certification/Skills:
  • Knowledge of current financial and/or human resources systems.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required Two years of college preferred

Minimum Experience:

2 years of related experience required

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
