The Shop Supervisor leads, directs, and supervises hollow metal production/operations. This includes supervising the performance of hollow metal production associates while implementing and enforcing processes to meet production quota, quality control requirements and product shipment deadlines. The Shop Supervisor must also actively work to improve inventory accuracy through rigorous inventory control processes, regular cycle counts and waste reduction. The Shop Supervisor is the primary contact for enforcing safe work practices for the hollow metal shop.
Essential Functions - Supervises all areas of hollow metal production including, Machine Shop, Setup, Welding, Grinding and Paint.
- Monitors material flow through the hollow metal shop, including receiving of raw materials, fabrication, storage and shipping; assuring quality, accuracy and efficiency at all points.
- Monitors production schedules and oversees daily hollow metal production and fabrication; adjusts production schedule as needed to meet production deadlines.
- Supervises all foreman and hollow metal shop associates
- Coordinates and assigns workload(s); Coordinates shipments with shipping department
- Monitors equipment maintenance; ensuring preventative maintenance is always current and equipment is in good working order.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate shop supplies.
- Responsible for logging completion dates in Job Master and ensuring timely completion of job folders.
- Communicates with management, via email or phone conversations, in a clear and professional manner.
- Participate in physical inventories.
- Keeps accurate attendance records and maintains a productive work environment
- Responsible for training and communicating job expectations to new hollow metal shop associates.
- Assist with performance appraisals and coaching.
- Responsible for opening the building on work days and closing/locking all doors at the end of the work day including perimeter doors and air compressor room doors.
- Must maintain a high level of accuracy, efficiency and safety while ensuring quality standards
- Other relative duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience with the commercial door and hardware industry, required
- Current and valid US driver's license preferred
- At least 1 year prior experience in a fast paced production/manufacturing environment preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - General knowledge of warehouse manufacturing
- Able to work as a team and at times independently, as well as follow directions
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, completing multiple duties with accuracy, shifting from one to another with frequent interruptions and competing deadlines
- Exercise sound judgment and prioritize with minimal supervision
- Basic hand and power tools including: hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, and cordless drills
- Knowledge of proper safety practices when handling products, tools and power equipment
- Ability to read and interpret basic mathematical measurements and effectively read and use a tape measure
- Able to work overtime as needed, arriving to work on time and with reliable transportation to and from work
- Detail-oriented
Physical Demands This position requires physical activity consistent with a construction or installation environment. The employee will spend more than two-thirds of their time standing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. Approximately one-third of the time may be spent walking and engaging in verbal communication or listening. Frequent lifting and moving of materials weighing between 25 and 50 pounds is required.
Work Environment This role may involve travel to project sites and exposure to a variety of environmental conditions. These may include outdoor weather, proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery, and the use of hand tools or hardware. Employees may be subject to frequent heavy lifting and other physical demands typical of a construction or warehouse environment.
