Description:
BryComm is seeking an OSP Fiber Lead Technician to be part of our Outside Plant team. The position will act as the on-site coordinator and crew supervisor for OSP installation projects. The Lead OSP Tech's task will be to ensure job completion according to company and customer quality and safety requirements While maintaining the efficiency Of the staff assigned to the project.
Responsibilities
• Will consistently run major project crews; assume responsibility for effective performance and provide necessary training.
• Adhere to Company and customer safety and quality guidelines and hold weekly safety meetings
• Initiate performance related communications and escalate to Project Manager if necessary.
• Will work directly alongside our Safety rep.
• Ensure productivity, job completion and compliance with project budget.
• Read and understand butterfly (vault conduit) drawings, and site drawings.
• Assist and supervise the setting up of vaults/manholes, using an air monitor and other safety equipment as necessary.
• Serves as the main on-site customer contact for OSP questions and/or concerns; attend facility and constructions meetings when required.
• Consistently demonstrating a detailed level of technical knowledge; troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED; technical training or certifications in fiber optics preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting (aerial and underground).
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to travel to job sites as required.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting OSP construction drawings, splice diagrams, and work prints.
• Strong understanding of industry safety standards, including OSHA and NESC requirements.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks (climbing, lifting, confined spaces).
• Experience using OTDR, power meters, fusion splicers, and related fiber testing equipment.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

• Technical Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of fiber optic cable splicing methods, and testing standards.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving fiber-related issues quickly.
• Leadership: Ability to lead a splicing crew, delegate tasks, and ensure quality control across all work performed.
• Communication: Clear and professional communication with team members, contractors, and clients; ability to document work accurately.
• Time Management: Skilled at organizing workloads, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing tasks under tight schedules.
• Safety Awareness: Knowledge of proper PPE use, safe handling of fiber optic materials, and traffic control requirements in the field.
• Adaptability: Ability to work independently or as part of a team, adjusting to project changes and unexpected site conditions.Physical Demands
This position requires physical activity consistent with a construction or installation environment. The employee will spend more than two-thirds of their time standing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. Approximately one-third of the time may be spent walking and engaging in verbal communication or listening. Frequent lifting and moving of materials weighing between 25 and 50 pounds is required.
Work Environment
This role may involve travel to project sites and exposure to a variety of environmental conditions. These may include outdoor weather, proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery, and the use of hand tools or hardware. Employees may be subject to frequent heavy lifting and other physical demands typical of a construction or warehouse environment.
