Job Description: Batch Plant / Pug Mill Belt Mechanic

Position Overview:

The Batch Plant / Pug Mill Belt Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of conveyor belts, batch plant equipment, and pug mills used in material mixing and processing. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of mechanical systems to support continuous production and minimize downtime.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance & Repairs:
    • Inspect, repair, and replace conveyor belts, rollers, pulleys, and drive components.
    • Perform preventative maintenance on batch plant and pug mill equipment to ensure optimal performance.
    • Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to motors, gearboxes, bearings, and hydraulics.
    • Weld and fabricate parts as needed for equipment repair.
  • Operational Support:
    • Monitor and adjust equipment to maintain consistent material flow and mixing efficiency.
    • Work closely with plant operators to address mechanical concerns and implement solutions.
    • Assist in plant start-up, shutdown, and calibration procedures.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Follow all safety regulations and company policies related to mechanical work and plant operations.
    • Conduct routine safety inspections and report hazards or potential issues.
    • Maintain clean and organized work areas to prevent workplace accidents.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and part replacements.
    • Communicate equipment performance issues and required repairs to supervisors.
    • Order and track inventory of spare parts and tools.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred).
  • Experience as a mechanic in an industrial or construction setting, preferably with batch plants or pug mills.
  • Strong knowledge of conveyor belt systems, hydraulics, and mechanical components.
  • Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and lift heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends if necessary.
Work Environment:
  • Exposure to dust, heat, noise, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Standing, lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces may be required.
  • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as gloves, hard hats, and safety glasses.
