Design & Estimating Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:

The Storage Solutions CAD Specialist provides support of all CAD design for Storage Solutions projects. This position will be responsible for preparing detailed working CAD design visuals which describe details of layouts within a warehouse, material lists, aisle dimensions, and pallet positions. Also, your goal will be to prepare accurate estimate reports for projects by gathering information, analyzing important metrics, and conducting regular risk assessments. This opportunity represents Shoppa's Material Handling and requires professionalism, strong communication skills, attention to detail, great attitude, expedience, and outstanding customer service. Candidates should expect to work directly with sales associates on the development of CAD visuals. Requests for visuals are often time sensitive and should be responded to in a timely manner. Candidates will also interact with vendors, such as when stamped PE drawings are required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas and related data to assess factors affecting component design and the procedures & instructions to be followed.
  • Coordinate with and consult others to complete design.
  • Layout and draw schematic, orthographic or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems and various mechanical devices.
  • Develop detailed drawings and specifications for projects using computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and/or other software.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct errors or omissions and to resolve customer complaints or issues with layout presentation.
  • Provide bill of materials for projects to expedite proposals to customers.
  • Work with other engineers in systems group to integrate projects as needed
  • Conduct site visits as needed to measure and/or confirm building specs as well as existing equipment
  • Work within Smartsheet to do bill of materials, notes, drawing attachments, updates, etc for each project.
  • Collect different quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Review and assess cost estimates.
  • Identify labor, material, costs and time requirements by researching proposals, and any related documents.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimate reports in Smartsheet.
  • Present complex and detailed reports to management.
  • Update information in Smartsheet database to ensure Project templates are ready for the next step in the process


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with computer aided design experience (CAD) preferred
  • Experience in the material handling, industrial equipment or automotive industry preferred
  • Experience in SAP, CAD, MS Office Suite (Intermediate- Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Great customer service and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communicator
  • Detail orientated
  • Problem solving is a must
