Position Summary: The Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL) invites applications for an Assistant Academic and Program Administrator. This position is responsible for supporting RCEL's academic programs and day-to-day operations, including graduate program admissions, faculty and student services, and departmental administration. The role also contributes to marketing and outreach by managing website content, coordinating communications, and assisting with event planning and execution.
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive academic and administrative support, ensure efficient program operations, and collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to advance RCEL's mission. By combining academic coordination, operational management, and event/marketing support, this position strengthens RCEL's programs, enhances the student and faculty experience, and extends the center's impact within and beyond the Rice community.
Ideal Candidate Statement: The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in higher education.
Workplace Requirements: On campus position: This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range: $19-$24
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
This position is a one-year term-limited position funded by a grant, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.
Minimum Requirements: - Associate Degree
- In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
- 2+ years of experience
- In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted
Skills: - Functional knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software programs to complete work assignments
- Basic skills to organize data into reportable format
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and possess organizational skills
- Ability to follow instructions as prescribed
Essential Functions: - Provides support to faculty, administrators, students, and staff by implementing and administering day-to-day functions of the department
- Coordinates three or more major departmental functions including: program administration, curriculum support, budget / finance, human resources, and communications / outreach
- Collects and compiles data, creates reports, and reviews documents; assists in formulating alternative solutions and / or recommendations
- Reviews policies and recommends changes as needed; assists in developing, revising, and implementing procedures
- Represents a program or function within the department or school
- May perform basic budgeting duties; monitor and approve expenditures
- May supervise staff, tasks and assignments
- Performs all other duties as assigned
