Position Summary:
In January 2025, Rice University's Office of Academic Support for Undergraduate Students (OASUS) launched the pilot semester of the university's first accommodated Testing Center. As part of our mission to increase access to academic support, the Testing Center provides an equitable testing environment for students with accommodations and other accessibility challenges. We are currently seeking a Testing Center Manager to oversee the Center's operations and growth.

Reporting to the Director of the Office of Academic Support for Undergraduate Students, which sits in the Division of the Provost, the Testing Center Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the center, communicate with faculty and students about Testing Center procedures, supervise a staff of part-time student workers, and manage reporting and assessment of the center's impact. This position also offers the exciting opportunity to play a key role in contributing to the vision that will shape the center's mission moving forward.

Workplace Requirements:
This position is primarily on-site but offers some flexibility for a partially hybrid role. During the semester and when the Testing Center is open, the position is on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person in the Fondren Library. During academic recesses, this position will offer the opportunity for remote work. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: $48, 700 - $52, 900
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience in testing coordination, student services, or disability support services, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted
  • 1+ years of directly related experience in testing coordination, student services, or disability support services
    • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted
  • Experience handling sensitive information/student records

Skills:
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage challenges and apply creative solutions to unexpected problems
  • Comfortable with administrative technology; knowledge of Microsoft Suite
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic integrity

Preferences:
  • Experience supervising student workers strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of assistive technology related to assessment accommodations
  • Experience with AIM and RegisterBlast or similar platforms

Essential Functions:
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Testing Center
  • Manage exam materials and coordinate with instructors to obtain, administer, and return exams securely and with fidelity to any specific instructions
  • Monitor the testing schedule to resolve inconsistencies and maximize the use of Testing Center space and resources
  • Monitor the testing environment to maintain academic integrity and support students' self-regulation needs
  • Train and supervise a staff of 10-15 part-time student workers
  • Serve as the primary contact for students and faculty about Testing Center policies and operations; and train faculty, staff, and students in using relevant platforms (AIM, RegisterBlast)
  • Maintain confidential testing and accommodation records, including usage data
  • Collect data and prepare reports to monitor the impact of the center and the efficient use of its resources
  • Keep informed of best practices and regulations related to accessible testing and relevant assistive technology
  • With empathy and integrity, work to protect the student testing experience
  • Perform other duties as assigned
