Position Summary:

Reporting to the senior director of campus and community engagement and conference services, the special events production manager is responsible for organizing and executing impactful events that align with the university's strategic objectives. This role requires creativity, exceptional communication, meticulous attention to detail, and strong project management skills to ensure seamless execution of assigned events. The role also requires experience in general special event production and knowledge of all event disciplines to ensure operational planning, design and layout is effective for both production staff as well as event patrons. The production manager will assist co-workers on events as assigned, providing guidance and advice on operational planning. This is a key position that will help to create a campus-wide events office with a focus of collaborating on special events that will elevate and market Rice objectives, programs and accomplishments, in support of the departments, offices, institutions and colleges that make-up the University.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated with a passion to create exceptional events and memorable attendee experiences and will exhibit a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism, with proven project management experience specifically in planning, collaborating and executing safe events in a positive and professional environment.

Workplace Requirements:

Hybrid position: This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: commensurate based on education and experience

*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Four or more (4+) years professional experience with events management including planning and execution.
    • In lieu of the education/experience requirement, additional related education and/or experience, above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

Essential Functions:
  • Assists with the creation, development, and execution of events both internally and externally for the University.
  • Builds effective relationships and leadership with various planning teams, creating strong morale and team spirit.
  • Develop relationships and trains sub-contractors working to meet event objectives in a safe, efficient and effective manner while providing professional and courteous care of the University's grounds and facilities.
  • Works cross-departmentally to assist others in meeting established event goals by elevating the services offered by our event office.
  • Analyzes successes and improvements.
  • Marshal of resources to accomplish goals, identifying opportunities for synergy and integration. Prepares event timelines, briefings, budgets and recap.
  • Scopes project for length and difficulty of tasks including theme, creative design, production and execution.
  • Develops on-going relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Assists with the creation of reports and helps others to create winning work plans to ensure strategic success.
  • Ensures that assigned projects and event goals are consistently met in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
