Position Summary:

The Center Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations and long-term success of the newly established Methodist-Rice Center for Human Performance. This position is responsible for managing a range of administrative and financial functions to ensure efficient and effective support for clinical, research, and academic activities. The Coordinator will develop and implement operational plans, processes, and procedures that align with strategic goals, while providing high-level technical and administrative support. Serving as a central liaison, the Coordinator will facilitate collaboration between the Kinesiology Department at Rice University, Rice Athletics, and the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Houston Methodist to promote integrated and seamless program delivery.

The ideal candidate for the Center Coordinator role is a proactive and detail-oriented professional with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. They will bring at least three years of relevant experience supporting complex operations in academic, clinical, or research environments, along with a proven ability to manage competing priorities with diplomacy and efficiency. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, budget management expertise, and the ability to navigate and support cross-institutional collaborations. A customer service mindset, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to adapt to occasional after-hours events are essential for success in this role supporting the newly established Methodist-Rice Center for Human Performance.

Workplace Requirements:

This is a fully on-site position based at the Methodist-Rice Center for Human Performance at Rice University. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9: 00 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m., with occasional support required outside of regular business hours. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: $52, 900 - $60, 000. This is an Exempt (salaried) position under FLSA, which is not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One or more (1+) year of related experience

  • Ability to establish and manage priorities and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with conflicting and varied deadlines

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and coworkers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

Essential Functions:
  • Leads the planning and operations for the program that has significant business, regulatory, and technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise
  • Manages unit budgets, human resources, and facilities functions
  • Manages the center calendar and coordinates meetings between individuals from both Houston Methodist Hospital and Rice University
  • Organizes, manages, and completes special projects
  • Evaluate programs, policies, and procedures
  • Identifies issues and develops alternative solutions, which may include changes to programs, policies, and procedures
  • Reviews and analyzes trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the department, program, or function
  • Develops and implements outreach strategies that may include relationship development, communications, and compliance
  • Maintains a file or database system for routine reports and relevant data sources.
  • Coordinate the application cycles and Interviews for CHP Internship
  • Ensure the successful completion of visitor credentialing mandated by Rice for Houston Methodist Hospital personnel.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions:
  • Perform reception duties by managing the front desk and promptly answering incoming calls.
  • Handle the procurement process for consumables and equipment supplies, ensuring efficient and accurate processing of purchases.
  • Maintain meticulous records of expenses and budgetary allocations for the center, ensuring financial transparency and accountability.
  • Manage the scheduling system for equipment usage within the center, ensuring optimal utilization and preventing conflicts.
  • Assist with organizing and coordinating events, including hospitality arrangements for visitors, research fairs for faculty and students, and other related activities within the center.
  • Efficiently schedule meeting rooms within the Tudor building and potentially other locations on campus, ensuring availability and accommodating various needs.
  • Greet and assist patients and participants who arrive at the center for care or participation in research studies, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment and that their needs are met.
  • Update the center's website by performing basic tasks such as maintaining membership records and posting upcoming events.
