What We're Looking For:

The Technical Consultant will support the Highway Practice, working closely with Regional Practice Leads (RPLs) and National Practice Leads (NPLs) to advance business development and marketing efforts focused on highway, roadway, and transportation infrastructure projects for state DOTs, toll authorities, municipalities, and federal clients.

What You'll Do:

Marketing:
  • Identify and track requests for qualifications (RFQs) and requests for proposals (RFPs) related to highway and roadway projects in coordination with Highway Practice leadership
  • Develop and maintain marketing materials, client profiles, and teaming partner packages for highway pursuits
  • Conduct market and client research to support state DOT programs, upcoming advertisements, funding initiatives, and industry trends impacting the highway market
  • Support Go/No-Go decision-making by gathering and organizing pursuit intelligence and competitive data
  • Coordinate with technical, management, and production teams to plan, write, and produce qualifications, proposals, and presentations for highway pursuits
  • Maintain and update boilerplate content, resumes, project descriptions, and practice information relevant to highway services
  • Provide writing, editing, graphic, and production support with an emphasis on telling a compelling story around Michael Baker's highway experience and differentiators
  • Assist with industry involvement, including organizing and promoting participation in transportation-related associations, conferences, and client events
  • Review and provide feedback on marketing materials, proposals, and interview presentations
  • Gather and organize information related to pursuit strategy, pricing, teaming, and technical approach
  • Represent the Highway Practice in internal meetings and support NPLs with scheduling, meeting notes, and follow-up actions
  • Coordinate closely with the Proposal Development team to ensure timely delivery of proposal materials, resumes, and qualifications
  • Track and monitor industry advertisements and procurement opportunities relevant to highway and roadway services
  • Plan, create, and support editorial and content initiatives supporting highway marketing efforts
  • Provide QA/QC of technical deliverables
  • Coordinate with Corporate Communications to ensure all materials remain on brand and aligned with company standards

Business Development:
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the highway and transportation industry, including state DOT structures, funding programs, and procurement processes
  • Develop working knowledge of Michael Baker's history, capabilities, and differentiators within the highway market
  • Support identification of teaming partners and client outreach targets for highway and roadway pursuits
  • Promote cross-selling opportunities with related transportation practices
  • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with external teaming partners and subconsultants
  • Support capture planning efforts for key highway clients and strategic pursuits
  • Participate in capture meetings for targeted highway programs and major pursuits
  • Assist with client and teaming partner meetings, presentations, and information gathering under the direction of Practice leadership
  • Contribute to efforts that support new client development and growth of new work added (NWA)
  • Maintain awareness of emerging opportunities and niche services within the highway and roadway market

Administrative Support:
  • Track annual marketing and business development budgets and assist Practice leadership with planning efforts
  • Support NPLs with internal requests, reporting, and coordination
  • Coordinate with internal sales funnel and marketing database teams to ensure highway-related data is accurate, current, and timely

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 25 years of experience in the A/E/C/P industry, preferably supporting transportation or highway-related markets
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and marketing teams
  • Strategic thinker with high ethical standards and sound business judgment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Adobe InDesign preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $125.00 hourly. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
