Position Summary

The Parenting Programs In-Home Specialist provides direct support and education to families participating in MHM parenting programs through in-home and group-based services. The role uses evidence-based and evidence-informed curricula to help clients strengthen parenting skills, improve family functioning, and achieve holistic health outcomes. Responsibilities include conducting monthly home visits, assessing client needs, providing crisis support, making referrals, coordinating events, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, reflective practice, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work independently in community settings.

Salary

Annual salary rate begins at $58, 810. Mid range at $74, 983. Actual starting rate will be commensurate with experience and education.

Scope and Impact

This position directly influences family stability, child development, and parent/child relationship outcomes across the MHM service area. The role provides front-line prevention, intervention, and education services, manages a robust caseload, documents client progress, and connects families to essential resources. Work contributes to system-level collaboration with schools, community agencies, legal systems, and healthcare organizations.

Decision-Making Authority

Operates with moderate independence to determine appropriate teaching, coaching, crisis-response approaches, referrals, and intervention methods. Uses discretion to assess client needs, navigate complex family situations, and ensure safety. Escalates issues involving safety risks, abuse/neglect, or legal concerns per protocol.

Interactions / Working Relationships
  • Internal: Parenting Program leadership; interdisciplinary teams; wellness and community health teams; administrative staff.
  • External: Families; community partners; schools; faith organizations; legal and correctional systems; social service providers; medical and behavioral health agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and educate clients in home and group settings using evidence-based and evidence-informed curricula while maintaining program fidelity and quality standards.
  • Conduct approximately 40 customized in-home parenting education visits per month.
  • Assist clients in identifying unhealthy parenting styles, beliefs, and coping mechanisms and develop action plans to improve family outcomes.
  • Use Motivational Interviewing and trauma-informed care to help clients set and achieve health and parenting goals.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments; track client progress and maintain required records and EHR documentation.
  • Provide life skills training to support client/family short- and long-term needs.
  • Serve as the primary point of outreach during client concern or crisis, including cases involving family violence or child abuse/neglect; ensure families are connected to appropriate resources.
  • Design, develop, and support implementation of parenting projects, activities, and events.
  • Assist with curriculum development and continuous process improvement.
  • Maintain resource documentation and support improvements in content delivery.
  • Coordinate meetings, quarterly socialization events, field trips, and outreach activities, including logistics, facilities, food, and speakers.
  • Understand program budget limitations and steward funds appropriately.
  • Maintain productivity expectations as established by supervisor.
  • Make referrals to MHM departments, community agencies, and organizations; conduct follow-up to ensure adequate service delivery using the integrated care model.
  • Encourage clients to engage in community programs that address specific needs.
  • Serve as an advocate and liaison to public/private agencies to improve client outcomes and prevent harm.
  • Collaborate with mental health agencies, probation departments, schools, faith organizations, and other partners.
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to support shared client goals.
  • Utilize standardized assessments and track measurable outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and interdisciplinary work groups.
  • Compile and maintain complete client records, documentation, and statistical data.
  • Integrate reflective supervision feedback and participate in peer group processes supporting professional and spiritual development.
  • Provide presentations for community stakeholders to recruit participants and build collaborative relationships.
  • Participate in recruiting host sites for Parents As Teachers (PAT) group connections and regional expansion.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming PAT referrals and inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, healthcare providers, legal systems, religious organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Mentor, assist, and train interns, contract employees, and new team members.
  • Assist leadership with developing intervention strategies and response plans.
  • Help coordinate volunteer participation and training.
  • Complete required MHM trainings and professional development.
  • Work evenings and weekends as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory or Leadership Responsibilities

Provides mentorship, training, and guidance to interns, contractors, and new team members. Does not supervise full-time staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required)
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, Special Education, or related field required.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
  • Must complete all required parenting curriculum certifications within 12 months of hire, including:
    • Parents As Teachers
    • Practical Parenting Education
    • Nurturing Program
    • Living Compass
  • Must obtain/maintain required certifications such as First Aid, CPR, Child Protection Training, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, ACEs, Domestic Violence (Purple Ally), PHQ-9, Interpersonal Violence Screening, ASQ-3, ASQ-SE, Parental Stress Inventory, PRAPARE, and others as assigned.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in program implementation, parenting education, early childhood/elementary education, or similar work. Experience facilitating parenting groups, coordinating events, and establishing community contacts preferred.
  • Other Required Skills/Knowledge: Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and auto liability insurance. Ability to travel frequently (up to 75%) for in-home visits and regional programming. Subject to additional background checks.

  • Advanced degrees, certifications, or specialized training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • List any Soft Skills: Collaboration, communication, problem-solving, leadership, etc. Experience supervising contractors, coordinating events, and facilitating parenting groups.
  • Experience with early childhood development, reflective supervision, or home visiting programs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required (if this is truly essential per your note).

Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Frequent in-home visits required.
  • Flexible schedule required to meet client needs.
  • Work may occur in homes, correctional facilities, treatment centers, community centers, and multi-service sites.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to varied indoor/outdoor environments and direct contact with families.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
  • May provide childcare assistance when needed.
