MTM Transit, in partnership with Capital Metro, is looking for a Building Maintenance Technician Class III to join our team in South Austin.
The Building Maintenance Technician III is responsible for assisting the Maintenance Manager with documenting and tracking building maintenance requirements. This position will also be responsible for performing minor building maintenance actions and coordinating with approved third-party vendors for larger facility maintenance functions.

What you’ll need:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Minimum of six months’ experience in related position, plumbing and construction trades preferred
- Must maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license
- Working knowledge of required safety equipment is required
Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, construction, and air conditioning equipment
- General knowledge of various types of equipment used in the building trades
- Exemplary organizational skills
- Ability to relate to a diversity of requests
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and situations
- Must be advanced in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Access and Excel
- Ability to work with little or no supervision
- Ability to do heavy lifting
What You’ll Do:
- Assist with painting interior and exteriors walls, floors, ceilings etc.
- Assist with minor carpentry functions in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens, scaffolding forms, wood fixtures, and furniture
- Assist with minor plumbing issues associated with clogged drains
- Assist with maintaining inventories of maintenance material, supplies, and repair parts at required levels
- Maintain year-round grounds maintenance
- Provides administrative support to maintenance division to include document tracking, filing, and auditing • Maintain tools and machinery and use all tools carefully and as instructed
- Load and unload trucks as needed
- Assist with furniture move and reassembly as needed
- Take precautions to ensure buildings are free of insects and rodents
- Ensure safe work environment, personal protection equipment (PPE) and hazardous materials protocols are followed
- Performs additional duties as required
Working Conditions
- May require work outside in extreme cold or hot weather
- May require work in awkward or cramped positions, or in high places
- Hazards may include exposure to potential electrical shock, burns, muscle strains, and other injuries from handling heavy equipment
- This job is operated in a professional office environment
- May be subject to adverse weather conditions during times of travel
- May be required to work evenings/weekends based on business need
Physical Requirements
- May require sitting in front of, and operating, a computer for extended periods
- Requires close visual acuity when operating a computer
- Requires manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools
- Must be able to drive a motor vehicle
- Must be able to communicate with others and comprehend verbal instructions
- Requires heavy lifting and carrying
- Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to perform repairs, use ladders, and perform various types of manual labor
- Ability to perform tasks at heights consisting of rooftops
- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers
- Must be able to move around an office environment
OTHER
- May be required to drive a company or rental vehicle (failure to pass an annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background screen may result in termination of employment)
- Must pass a DOT Physical annually
