Responsibilities: As part of the LG US South Region the onsite business development director will aggressively lead all onsite and pipeline business development work process by working with the South Region sales team, Linde industry subject matter experts, directly with potential customers, and by managing and following up on the business development tracking spreadsheet of opportunities. This position will have 7 direct business development manager reports. This position will also be responsible for HYCO and large projects onsite business development for all of US and Canada. Job Scope: Addresses wide variety of demands with control of objectives and priorities. Defines elements of business acquisition strategy within business development, covering all onsite opportunities from multi-million dollar to multi-billion dollar sale of gas investment opportunities. Reviews objectives and priorities in collaboration with onsite and pipeline sales and Linde region management. Collaborates with Linde industry subject matter experts (e.g. steel, chemical, renewables, electronics) to identify, create, investigate, evaluate, promote, develop, commercialize and acquire new business opportunities, often long-term in nature. Creates purpose and vision for own sales area that supports larger organizational goals. Participates on cross-business/ cross-functional or special project teams. Works closely with capital director, merchant BD, onsite and pipeline sales, product management, and Linde Engineering. Objective is to make Linde the industrial gas solutions provider for our customers. Additional Responsibilities: - Identifies, evaluates, creates and manages business development strategy to accomplish region's onsite business development objectives. - Accountable for delivering the assigned area's annual business plan results related to growth. - Monitors competitive activity and ensure that appropriate response strategies are formulated. - Has a direct role in defining business unit product and sales direction, providing functional guidance and expertise for tactical decisions. - Develops, supports and forges key alliances and partnerships to secure new opportunities. - Reviews and helps set appropriate onsite BD objectives for sales against KPIs. - Sets goals and tactics for business growth, including regularly reviewing BD opportunity reports with sales and region management. - Monitors the overall BD plans to ensure compliance with long- and short-term goals and tactics, strategies and negotiation plans. - Validates business opportunities, often across business units- including identifying business alternatives, in preparation of proposals and in contract negotiation. - Oversees complex budgeting processes, ensuring resource allocation and budgetary decisions align with long-term corporate objectives and growth priorities. - Assists the sales team in building and maintains business relationships at customer senior management levels as appropriate, using the Linde organization to strengthen and broaden those relationships. - Capable of negotiating long term, project based, sophisticated agreements. - Establish relationships with key decision makers at potential customers. - Must be willing to represent the customer's interest internally to allow for Linde to present solutions. - Effectively utilize sources of competitive advantage for Linde in energy, chemicals, infrastructure and related sectors. Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or similar technical discipline; MBA a plus. - 15+ years business experience - 10+ years successful project development/investment experience - 5+ years commercial experience - Contracting large on-site or pipeline supply experience. - Ability to clearly communicate technical and commercial information related to industrial gas solutions across all levels of the organization. - Excellent listening skills and the ability to quickly analyze and respond to challenges in dynamic situations, particularly in industrial gas supply systems. - Understanding of and/or experience in the energy (refining, renewables, renewable power, LNG, gas processing) and chemicals industries. - Experience in project management and business development/or sales with demonstrated success in developing and commercializing complex and uncertain projects on a build own operate basis with and without partners. - Well-developed commercial skills with experience in negotiating complex investment projects including partnerships, offtake agreements, financing etc. - Mastery of PowerPoint, Excel, and DCF analysis. - Experience with managing high performing cross-functional teams of both internal and outside resources. - Excellent leadership and communication skills including communication to senior management. - Commercial creativity with an entrepreneurial spirit. - Familiarity with the hydrogen/syngas business, hydrogen/syngas production technologies, hydrogen recovery technologies, gas processing, carbon capture and electrolysis, well developed commercial and negotiations skills. - Well versed in "build own and operate" business models. - Successful track record of working with engineering and R& D functions. - Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.
