Description:

Overview

Helps develop, implement, monitor, and manage Kirby Inland Marine’s vessel safety program. Contribute to Kirby Corporation’s safety program goals by leading in the areas of incident prevention, safety/security bulletins, regulatory compliance, training, staff and crew interaction, and industrial hygiene. Facilitate Kirby’s compliance with the USCG vessel and facility security plans.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the organization's procedures, facilities, and equipment to identify unsafe conditions that need improvement.
  • Responsible for maintaining of safety and accident records.
  • Visit Kirby towing vessels and Kirby facilities to assist with safety program goals.
  • Publish vessel & facility safety/ security bulletins, drills, & exercises.
  • Support the Kirby Injury/Spill Review Committees.
  • Manage OSHA/Riskmaster/AWO data collection
    to comply with record keeping requirements.
  • Interface with Kirby Corp safety managers to complete safety program requirements.
  • Interface with new hires, crewmembers, and operations personnel in safety meetings.
  • Confirm safety information is effective and reaches target personnel.
  • Carry out field work assignments in support of industrial hygiene and safety programs.
  • Research information for the safety program presentations, publications, & investigations.


Qualifications

  • Willingness to lead in the safety effort.
  • Organized, detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Self-motivated and multi-task oriented.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office computer programs.
  • Have strong interest in and aptitude for various digital media in support of the safety program.

Education/ Experience:

Bachelor Degree and professional safety background

Prefer minimum seven (7) years industrial or maritime safety work experience. TWIC required.

Working Conditions

Office located in Channelview Peterkin Bldg. with 40-hour work week. Field work assignments require the ability to travel to industrial work areas, towing vessels, tank barges, and other Kirby facilities. Field work requires longer workdays and/or over-night travel.
