BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS

Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers' storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for the successful installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting and repair of electrical components associated with facility and equipment related to the transfer and storage of bulk products.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit transformers, or other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with code.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as odometers, voltmeters, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Comply with the work order process and follow progress to ensure completion.
  • Assist in the tracking of maintenance costs, ensure objectives and costs are achieved and consistent with budgetary constraints.
  • Problem solver and creative thinker in order to provide solutions to improving the equipment performance.
  • Advise terminal management of progress toward objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments.
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blue prints, technical manuals, operational manuals).
  • Accept supervision and work cooperatively with co-workers, customer representatives, regulators, KM staff and others.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements include:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of previous successful or experience industrial maintenance is required.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Able to work at different work locations when needed
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally.
  • Must work shift schedule as assigned and overtime with little to no notice during the week, weekends, holiday, etc. as needed for operational needs.
  • In order to appropriately perform the essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.
  • If required must be able to perform shift work, rotating day/night.
  • You will be subject to the on-call schedule and must respond to emergency call outs as scheduled
  • Good oral and written communications
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and applications
  • Ability to perform job duties with little or no supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work safely with emphasis on following procedures and management practices
  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
  • Be able to assist or lead in mechanical maintenance including replacing gearboxes that are related to operating equipment.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ECT:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers and must be willing to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment.
  • Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Must be able to pass a Drug and Alcohol test along with a Hair follicle test.
  • Must possess Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations
  • Must be able to complete/pass DISA/ISTC background check and testing for entrance into refinery.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Understand and comply with customer and Kinder Morgan's rules and policies.
  • Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach, etc. for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to handle evolving conditions.
  • Ability to identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • This position consist of outside work and adverse weather conditions may apply.
  • Physically able to handle tools, climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend ladders, and should not have a fear of heights
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical part, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock and loud noise levels.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Understanding PLC logic
