CO 2 Business Unit
The CO 2 Business Unit is one of the largest transporters of carbon dioxide in North America, transporting approximately 750 million cubic feet of CO 2 from our source fields in Southwest Colorado to New Mexico and Texas for use in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) projects. In addition to CO 2 pipelines, we own the Kinder Morgan Wink Pipeline system, which transports crude oil from fields across West Texas to El Paso.

Transportation Director
The CO2 Transportation Director is responsible for CO2 and Crude Oil pipeline operations, engineering support, and control room operations. This position requires safety leadership, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, financial acumen and effective communication.

This position is responsible for:
  • Safe, high quality, compliant, and financially sound operations and work
  • Continuing strong support relationships with commercial, operations support, procurement and financial teams
  • Leadership, evaluation and development of 4 Managers and their teams
  • Promoting and guiding the following programs:
    • Safety
    • Damage Prevention
    • Regulatory Compliance
    • Budgeting and Forecasting (O& M/Capital)
    • Emergency Response and Incident Reporting
    • System Reliability
    • CO2 and Crude Oil Measurement
  • Supporting business development in the scoping and development of new pipeline opportunities.
  • Effective and timely communication with team, peers, customers and stakeholders.
  • Reporting to the Vice President of CO2 Midstream.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Set expectations, measure performance and communicate/document appropriate feedback
  • Lead, enhance and sustain team cultures of Integrity, Accountability, Safety and Excellence
  • Set the performance example through communications and actions
  • Properly represent the company to outside stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, governmental entities, landowners, third party operators, vendors and industry organizations
  • Ensure proactive, high quality customer service is provided on an individual and team level
  • Make independent decisions regarding work assignments, personnel, and budget in response to direction received in the form of corporate and team goals, annual objectives, business requirements and company policy
  • Encourage cohesive teamwork and provide quality staff work through interaction with operational, financial, commercial and support group peers
  • Develop subordinate leaders in preparation for advancement and career growth
  • Oversee all team financials including OPEX, CAPEX and G& A, including spend managed by the Operations Support Group and/or Project Management
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with regulations and corporate policies
  • Develop, measure and communicate Key Performance Indicators
  • Capture best practices and nurture ongoing continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of status, current cost & schedule, forecasted results, risks & opportunities, quality and performance for all projects


Position Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:
• Bachelor's degree
Technical field (preferred)
Experience / Specific Knowledge:
• 10+ years in the pipeline or oil & gas industry
• 5+ years leadership in operations and/or engineering

Physical Demands:
  • Predominantly office environment, but travels to the field 50% of the time
  • Ability to hear communications from others and give input/instructions orally
  • Ability to see in order to observe employees, processes, equipment and facilities

Working Conditions:
  • Primarily office, up to 50% travel
  • Working after hours, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call as needed to lead a 24/7 operation
  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of initiative

Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Supervises Engineering Manager, Operations Manager (2), and Control Room Manager
  • Ability to supervise employees remotely
  • Multi-level supervisory organization
  • Supervisory responsibility for exempt and / or non-exempt direct reports

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Pipeline operations and/or engineering experience
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Other Responsibilities:
  • Special projects as required
