Position Description

Primary purpose:
Work as part of a small team responsible for interfacing with all business units within Kinder Morgan for a broad range of Emergency Response, Disaster Recovery, and Operational Continuity functions utilizing an all-hazards approach for risk mitigation, planning, and response. Maintain corporate values providing internal/external support services to all Kinder Morgan business units, shared service departments, and assets.

Other duties include developing and coordinating online and in-person training to internal customer base. Interact with the critical business units and support groups for the purpose of planning, directing, controlling, and maintaining the contingency planning effort in a supporting role.

This is NOT an IT/information technology systems position.


Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Continuously improve training programs and continuity of operations processes focusing on the implementation and execution of all related items.
    • Work extended hours when involved in the planning, preparation, response, and recovery of an event that has the potential for business operations disruption.
    • Prepare written documentation, procedures, interactive training modules, presentations, and clearly communicate to key stake holders.
  • Support main office emergency response planning, drills, process improvements utilizing an all-hazards approach to planning, response, and recovery activities.
  • Exhibit the ability to process information rapidly for problem resolution during a crisis situation and articulate solutions to business unit and corporate leaders.
  • Develop specific schedules for annual corporate support groups and contingency planning updates to ensure compliance to established schedules.
  • Effectively execute specific exercises/tabletop drills to ensure efficiency in the process to plan, prepare, respond & recover utilizing various real-world scenarios.
  • Provide support to Business Unit management and functional areas as requested when a disruption occurs.
  • Proficient working within the confines of the NIMS/ICS structure in a variety of assigned roles and responsibilities.
  • Act as the key interface with business unit leaders and corporate communications during a crisis response impacting the public to effectively facilitate the operation of Public Response Hotline and On-Site Public Evacuation Liaison functions.
  • Aid in developing and implementing a process to identify/classify asset risk.
  • Analyze and report on implications of regulatory requirements and industry guidance as it pertains to safety and emergency response.
  • Exhibit the ability to network across various business functions within a multi-matrix oil and gas business model.
  • Working in a team environment exhibiting leadership skills.
  • Travel as required on short notice to respond to an event in support of on-scene response.
  • Develop and maintain department guidance documents and electronic filing systems.
  • Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes.
  • Assist with updating and migrating procedures into proper format.
  • Ability to work across all Business Units and various levels of leadership.
  • Technical writing skills with the ability to understand verbal and written communications, including but not limited to email, department procedure, processes, and guidelines.
  • Assist in project and event coordination.
  • Other daily, weekly, and monthly duties, and special projects, as assigned.

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree, or three to five years of work-related experience in emergency response.
  • Relevant experience in Emergency Response, and/or Incident Command System (ICS).

Experience / specific knowledge:
  • Relevant experience in Emergency Response, and/or Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Basic knowledge of key financial terms and principles.

Competency, skills, and abilities:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications for the purpose of word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and information retrieval.
  • Out of the box thinker who takes initiative and works well within a team environment.
  • Must possess and regularly demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Multi-tasking with the ability to successfully organize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, frequently under strict deadlines due to emergency related timelines.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully perform the required and expected duties with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to work within a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules.
  • Focused on providing over and above service to our internal customer base and leadership.
  • Must be flexible and able to consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with internal customers, co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • A satisfactory driving record is determined by the Company and a valid State driver's license is required for this role.

Physical demands:
  • Working in an office environment and work from home days as workload activities permit.

Working conditions:
  • Modern office location in Houston, TX.
  • Up to 20 percent travel.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets.
  • The successful candidate required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Supervisory responsibility:
  • None

Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities: Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, and 300 certifications with event response experience.
  • Basic safety knowledge and OSHA related training is a plus.
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses of data with a high degree of Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Working knowledge utilizing The Response Group IAP application.
