Description:

INVISTA has an exciting opportunity within our Propylene Monitoring team and is seeking a Monitoring & Improvement Engineer to join the group.

This role will be based onsite at the Houston Propylene plant, supporting both the Houston and Longview manufacturing sites. Per candidate preference following the onboarding period, the role can be based at either the Houston or Longview site.

Our Team

The INVISTA Propylene Monitoring team supports asset reliability and production of propylene and polypropylene by developing and maintaining equipment and process monitoring models to detect anomalies and collaborating with sites to respond to anomalies, enabling proactive failure prevention.

This role will be primarily focused on using models to identify anomalies, maintaining these models, and resolving anomalies with the site. In this role, you will become the anomaly resolution SME for the Propylene Monitoring Team while also supporting new model development. Also, as a member of the Transformation organization, you will be expected to continuously innovate and improve our processes, systems, and yourself to stay competitive in our business.

What You Will Do

Monitoring Analyst

  • Monitor and support failure prevention of equipment and processes by
  • Leveraging data analytics technology to automatically identify potential process and equipment anomalies (early failures, adverse process conditions, etc.)
  • Utilizing data, experience and troubleshooting skills to validate identified anomalies
  • Communicating validated anomalies to the sites, including relevant information and data that will enable early response to the anomaly, and collaborate with the site to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Documenting anomaly resolution insights, actions, and value creation in case management system
  • Drive continuous improvement of existing monitoring models to meet quality and availability targets in all monitoring platforms
  • Support the development of work processes and tools to effectively deliver value to our partner sites.
  • Grow in knowledge and understanding of reliability fundamentals (rotating, fixed, electrical, instrumentation, analyzers, process control systems)

Model Development

  • Utilizing data analysis techniques and process/equipment knowledge, build monitoring models in various platforms to automatically detect process and asset anomalies, predict failures, and inform decision-making to prevent or mitigate equipment failures and lost production
  • Work with asset owners and SMEs to prioritize monitoring opportunities and build high quality and actionable models tied to equipment and process failure modes.
  • Document design and assumptions for new models and incorporate lessons learned into model quality standard


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with at least 2 years of chemical/industrial experience
  • Experience in leveraging data to detect early failures, drive root cause analysis/investigation, identify failure modes, support case management, and/or troubleshoot processes and equipment (fixed, rotating, analyzer, or electrical)
  • Highly organized and contribution-motivated individual who is personally driven to collaborate with others, innovate, transform work, seek knowledge, and create value
  • Strong ability to build relationships and effectively communicate with reliability, operations, and process teams and use influence to motivate action and resolution of anomalies
  • Ability to travel 10-20% of the time


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Expertise and/or certification related to asset reliability (rotating, fixed, electrical, instrumentation, analyzers, process control systems)
  • Experience with model deployment (design, build, test, implement) in platforms such as SEEQ, Prometheus APM, OSI PI Asset Framework in a chemical/refining environment
  • Experience using OSI PI (PI Asset Framework/PI Vision/Event Frames)
  • Practical knowledge and experience with applying LEAN concepts
