Position Summary: The Construction Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, execution, and performance of multiple field construction projects involving the remediation, structural repair, and maintenance of utility structures, including transmission towers, lattice structures, concrete foundations, and associated infrastructure. This position provides leadership to multiple Construction Superintendents and their field crews, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with engineering specifications, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
The Construction Manager serves as the primary operational leader for field construction activities, partnering closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Safety, Quality, Equipment, and Executive Leadership to drive operational excellence, maximize productivity, develop field leaders, and ensure consistent execution across multiple concurrent projects throughout the country.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership
• Lead multiple Construction Superintendents overseeing projects across various geographic regions.
• Provide strategic direction and operational support to ensure consistent execution across all assigned projects.
• Develop manpower plans and allocate personnel, equipment, and resources to maximize efficiency.
• Monitor project performance related to safety, schedule, quality, productivity, and profitability.
• Conduct regular field visits to coach Superintendents, evaluate project performance, and ensure company standards are consistently met.
• Ensure effective communication between field operations, project management, engineering, estimating, and executive leadership.
• Develop and implement best practices that improve construction operations and project execution.
• Support business growth by identifying opportunities for operational improvements and increased efficiency.
Leadership & Personnel Development
• Directly supervise multiple Construction Superintendents.
• Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate Construction Superintendents and other field leadership.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, mentoring, and corrective action when necessary.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
• Assist in succession planning and leadership development within field operations.
• Promote employee engagement and retention through effective leadership and communication.
Project Execution
• Oversee multiple utility construction and structural remediation projects simultaneously.
• Review project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and production goals with Project Managers.
• Ensure projects are properly staffed with qualified personnel and appropriate equipment.
• Monitor project schedules and proactively address risks affecting production or client commitments.
• Assist Superintendents in resolving complex field issues and unforeseen project conditions.
• Ensure proper coordination with subcontractors, utility representatives, inspectors, and engineering teams.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings and major client meetings.
• Support project closeout activities and lessons learned initiatives.
Structural Remediation & Utility Construction Oversight
• Provide leadership and oversight for projects involving:
o Structural steel repair and reinforcement
o Lattice transmission tower repairs
o Foundation rehabilitation and replacement
o Concrete restoration and structural concrete placement
o Epoxy injection and grout repair
o Reinforcing steel installation
o Formwork installation
o Structural demolition
o Jackhammering and concrete removal
o Corrosion mitigation
o Excavation and backfilling
o Heavy equipment operations
o Utility right-of-way construction
o Transmission and distribution infrastructure repairs
Financial & Operational Performance
• Monitor labor productivity and equipment utilization across all assigned projects.
• Review project costs and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
• Assist with forecasting manpower, equipment, and operational needs.
• Review production reports and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Collaborate with Project Managers to minimize cost overruns and schedule delays.
• Participate in operational planning and budgeting processes.
• Ensure efficient utilization of company assets and field resources.
Safety Leadership
• Champion a proactive safety culture across all field operations.
• Ensure Construction Superintendents consistently enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
• Review safety performance metrics and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
• Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
• Conduct periodic safety audits and field observations.
• Promote hazard recognition, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and daily safety planning.
• Ensure compliance with utility owner safety requirements and environmental regulations.
Quality Assurance
• Ensure projects comply with engineering specifications, client requirements, and company quality standards.
• Oversee implementation of quality control processes across multiple projects.
• Conduct periodic project quality reviews.
• Resolve quality concerns with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Engineering.
• Ensure proper documentation of inspections, testing, and completed work.
Client Relations
• Build and maintain strong relationships with utility clients and project stakeholders.
• Participate in client meetings and project reviews.
• Resolve field-related client concerns in a professional and timely manner.

Reporting & Communication

Qualifications
• Required
o 10+ years of construction experience with significant experience in utility construction, structural remediation, heavy civil, or industrial construction.
o 5+ years of progressive leadership experience managing multiple construction projects and field supervisors.
o Demonstrated experience leading multiple Construction Superintendents.
o Strong knowledge of structural steel repairs, concrete restoration, foundation repair, excavation, demolition, and utility infrastructure.
o Experience managing geographically dispersed projects.
o Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, manpower planning, and resource allocation.
o Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
o Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and utility industry safety requirements.
o Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
o Valid driver's license.
• Preferred
o Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
o OSHA 30 certification.
