Description:

Ardurra is seeking a Survey Party Chief II to join our Survey Group in Corpus Christi, TX.

Ardurra is a multidisciplinary civil engineering services firm delivering practical, innovative solutions to public and private sector clients. Our Corpus Christi survey team supports critical water/wastewater infrastructure projects while also executing independent oil & gas survey work across the region.

This is a mid-level field leadership role for a hands-on professional who can lead a crew, execute field operations independently, and contribute to high-quality survey deliverables across multiple project types.

Primary Function

The Survey Party Chief II is responsible for leading field survey crews and executing a variety of survey assignments using established procedures and technical judgment. This role includes direct supervision of field staff, coordination with project managers, and ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.

The Party Chief II operates with a moderate level of autonomy and is expected to troubleshoot field conditions, manage daily logistics, and maintain production quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise field survey crews on a variety of projects (topographic, boundary, construction, and pipeline/oil & gas)
  • Execute field surveys using total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and data collectors
  • Ensure accurate and complete field data collection, coding, and documentation
  • Prepare clear, organized, and legible field notes and reports
  • Upload/download and verify survey data daily
  • Coordinate with Survey Project Managers and office staff on project requirements and deliverables
  • Train and mentor field technicians on equipment use, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Ensure proper setup and use of traffic control and safety measures prior to fieldwork
  • Maintain survey vehicles, equipment, and supplies in a clean and operational condition
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of survey equipment and data collection issues
  • Support clearing, staking, and layout activities as required
  • Identify field risks including terrain, weather, wildlife, and environmental hazards
  • Represent Ardurra professionally in the field with clients, contractors, and the public

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience as a Survey Party Chief I or equivalent field leadership role
  • Proven experience leading survey crews and executing field operations independently
  • Proficiency with:
    • Data collectors (Trimble, Leica, or similar)
    • Total stations and GPS/GNSS systems
    • Digital and optical levels
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Boundary, topographic, and construction surveying
    • Basic survey calculations (geometry and trigonometry)
    • Standard field procedures and data collection methods
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, and survey instructions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather, rough terrain, and physically demanding conditions
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting water/wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Experience with oil & gas / pipeline surveying
  • Familiarity with survey standards and practices (ALTA, boundary, and construction staking)
  • OSHA 10-hour certification (or willingness to obtain; company provided)

Work Environment & Travel

  • Primarily field-based role
  • Frequent outdoor work in varying conditions
  • Occasional travel, including overnight stays, depending on project needs
