Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Customs & Trade Analyst to oversee the implementation and management of the new 25% tariff on steel and aluminum products, including specified derivative products, as part of the Section 232 investigation into national security concerns. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in international trade, tariff regulations, and supply chain management. This position reports directly to the Trade & Customs Ops Manager in Franklin, TN.

General understanding of U.S. Customs valuation rules, ability to ensure proper classification and origin determination for all imported and exported goods. Ability to apply working knowledge and experience of import/export regulations and requirements to support business needs. Maintain a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and interpret requirements for compliance as they relate to Export Administration Regulations (EAR) of the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

PLEASE NOTE: This role is not a data analytics position. Customs compliance positions require knowledge related to laws and regulations governing the import and export of goods, ensuring accurate declarations, and proper classification.

These tasks and key responsibilities are essential for ensuring compliance with Section 232 tariffs and managing the complexities of international trade effectively.
  • Tariff Implementation: Ensure the accurate application of the 25% tariff on steel and aluminum products imported into the U.S., including specified derivative products. Ability to determine the classification of products under the HTS codes subject to Section 232 duties.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and review shipping documents to include necessary information such as product description, country of melt/pour for steel, and country of smelt/cast for aluminum. Maintain detailed records of all imports and exports, ensuring compliance with Section 232 regulations.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor and enforce compliance with tariff regulations, ensuring all imports meet the requirements set forth by the Section 232 investigation.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports on tariff impacts, compliance status, and any issues arising from the implementation of the tariffs.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, customs brokers, government agencies, and industry associations, to provide updates and address concerns related to the tariffs.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with the tariffs, including potential supply chain disruptions and financial impacts.
  • Policy Analysis: Analyze and interpret tariff policies and regulations, providing strategic recommendations to senior management. Stay updated and adapt on changes to tariff policies and regulations.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to relevant departments and personnel on tariff regulations and compliance procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tariff management, international trade, or supply chain management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Section 232 investigation and related tariff regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for tariff management and reporting.
  • Experience working with steel and aluminum products.
  • Familiarity with U.S. import/export regulations.
