Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

This is a shop hourly position with the primary responsibility of facilitating the movement of products at the end of the assembly process. The Forklift Driver is expected to be a problem solver, critical thinker, and independent worker who maintains a positive attitude and flexibility to meet the needs of both internal and external customers.

The role is crucial to ensuring that all products are moved safely and efficiently throughout the shipping process.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

The Mechanic II position is considered semi-skilled and requires a strong foundation in departmental operations, safety awareness, and material handling practices. A successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

Experience & Equipment Proficiency

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating material handling equipment.
  • Fully competent in operating all major and minor material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Proficient in operating most equipment within the department.
  • Knowledge of hazards related to machine operation and adherence to plant safety protocols.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, including safety-sensitive areas across the department and facility.

Leadership & Team Collaboration

  • Proven ability to lead small groups and train less experienced team members (e.g., Mechanic III or Helper).
  • Demonstrated flexibility to work at multiple workstations across departments and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams to support plant-wide objectives.

Communication Skills

  • Effective oral communication with co-workers, supervisors, and BAC customers; conveys technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong written communication skills for documenting processes, writing professional emails, and maintaining accurate reports.
  • Able to complete departmental paperwork including work orders, maintenance logs, and inspection checklists.

Technical & Analytical Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Competent in basic and applied math, including fractional computations and conversions.
  • Skilled in using handheld measuring tools, such as tape measures, micrometers, and protractors.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel for updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted spreadsheets.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar ERP systems.

Continuous Improvement & Product Knowledge

  • Understanding of Lean principles, including the 8 Wastes and 5S methodology.
  • Ability to support root cause analysis for identified quality issues and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • High level of product knowledge related to BAC’s equipment, parts, and models.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Possess a valid forklift operator’s permit or license or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of BAC parts, materials, and equipment.
  • Be capable of learning and performing part and equipment retrieval, acquisition, kitting, and storage procedures.
  • Be flexible to work a staggered or off shift, as business needs require.
  • Provide material handling support to other departments as needed.
  • Understand and apply basic Lean principles, including the 8 Wastes and 5S methodologies, and actively contribute to process improvements.
  • Demonstrate consistent performance in key areas, including productivity, safety, and overall work habits.
  • Have basic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft (or similar ERP systems).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Team Leader, Plant Superintendent, or Plant Manager.
  • Maintain excellent attendance, with no active disciplinary actions under the attendance points system within the past year.
  • Be available and willing to work any shift, as needed to support production demands.
