Job Description

AutoZone is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in telecom infrastructure with strong hands on expertise in Cisco collaboration, Webex Calling, and automation. This role owns the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of telecom systems that serve our enterprise, with a focus on reliability, security, and scalability across hybrid and multi cloud environments. The Senior engineer operates at the system level, collaborates cross functionally, and may provide technical guidance to peers and junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain telecom and unified communications systems (Webex Calling, CUCM, gateways/CUBE) to meet performance, availability, and security targets.
• Implement automation for provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting (e.g., Python, Ansible, Terraform) to improve reliability and speed of delivery.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in Cisco voice/collab and adjacent technologies; integrate with cloud/hybrid environments and contact center platforms (e.g., Cisco CCE).
• Own the system lifecycle (planning, upgrades/migrations, capacity, DR, patching) and contribute to standards, runbooks, and architecture documentation.
• Provide tier 3 escalation support and participate in on call rotations; drive root cause analysis and permanent fixes for complex voice/network incidents.
• Plan and estimate work across multiple domains impacted by telecom (voice, network, identity, security); coordinate with network, security, and app teams to deliver outcomes.
• Conduct focused technical reviews (config, code/scripts, change plans); ensure adherence to security and compliance baselines.
• Mentor/guide associate and systems engineers on best practices and tooling; may have limited supervisory responsibilities on a project basis.

Qualifications

• 7-15 years of progressive experience in network/telecom engineering with significant hands on work in Cisco collaboration/voice (Webex Calling, CUCM, CUBE/gateways).
• Proven experience automating network/telecom operations (Python, Ansible, Terraform or equivalent).
  Strong understanding of SIP trunking and Session Border Controllers (e.g., Ribbon SBCs) and carrier services (e.g., AT& T BVoIP, IP Flex).
• Solid knowledge of IP networking and security: TCP/IP, NAT, routing (OSPF/EIGRP/BGP), auth (TACACS/RADIUS).
• Experience with cloud networking (Azure or GCP) and hybrid/multi cloud integrations.
• Familiarity with Cisco SD WAN (Viptela) or Meraki, and network management/observability (e.g., SolarWinds, NetQoS).
• Exposure to virtualization/orchestration (VMware ESX or similar).
• Clear, concise communication skills; ability to provide technical supervision and collaborate across teams.
  
  Preferred / Nice to Have
• Certifications such as Cisco CCNP Collaboration (CCIE Collaboration a plus), Webex Calling Specialist; cloud or networking certifications (Azure/GCP, SD WAN).
• Experience with contact center technologies (e.g., Cisco CCE) and integrations (SBCs, PSTN carriers, identity).
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices for network/telecom automation (linting, testing, pipelines).
• Prior contributions to standards, templates, and reusable automation that improve operational consistency.
